This guide will show you how to pay utility bills using the SafeBoda App in Uganda.
The SafeBoda app started off as an uber app that connects cyclists to customers. However, you can now do more ranging from depositing money, ordering food, delivery services, buying airtime, sending money, withdrawing money, and paying utility bills. The “Pay bills” feature is now live on the SafeBoda app allowing users to pay utility bills like;
- National Water and Swerage Cooperation.
- Electricity – UMEME Postpaid and Yaka Prepaid.
- Pay TV- GOTV, DSTV, AZAM TV, Startimes.
Step 1: Download / Update SafeBoda App
New customers: Download and install the SafeBoda app on your device. The app is available on both Play Store for Androids and App Store for IOS. Create an account then follow the prompts to create a security pin.
Old App Users: Launch the SafeBoda app on your device. If your app is outdated, please first choose to update it. Only users with up-to-date safeboda applications can use the Pay Bill feature.Log in with the required login credentials.

How to Pay Water bills Using Safe Boda App
1. Open the SafeBoda App on your device.
2. Tap on the Pay Bills feature on the home menu.
3. Click Water followed by the New NWSC Bill.
4. Select Area.
5. Enter Meter number.
6. The meter number details i.e name, meter number, and the outstanding balance will appear on the screen. If the details are correct, tap the “Continue” button.
7. Select the amount you want to pay from the listed options then click Payment Summary.
8. Proceed with confirming your pin if you have enough funds in your SafeBoda wallet. If you do not have enough money, click on “Deposit Wallet” and follow the prompts.
How to Pay Electricity Bills Using the Safe Boda App (Buy Yaka or Pay UMEME Postpaid)
1. Launch the SafeBoda app on your device.
2. Tap on the Pay Bills feature on the home menu.
3. Click on Electricity followed by the New UMEME Bill.
4. Tap on either Yaka Prepaid or UMEME Postpaid. This depends on the service you are connected too.
5. Enter the meter number and tap Continue.
6. Details attached to the meter number will be displayed. If the information is correct, tap Continue.
7. Enter the amount you are willing to pay then confirm the transaction.
8. You will receive a confirmatory message on your number.
How to Pay TV Using the Safe Boda App
1. Launch the SafeBoda App on your device.
2. Tap on the Pay Bills feature on the home menu.
3. Click on TV followed by the preferred Pay TV service provider (GOTV, DSTV, STARTIMES, AZAM TV).
4. Tap on New GoTV Bill. This option will depend on the Pay TV service provider that you have chosen.
5. Enter the Meter number and the also select the package you want to subscribe to.
6. Key in amount and confirm transaction.
Note: Safeboda has launched the “1 PM 1 shilling” campaign running from the 7th to 31st March 2022 with the main aim of refunding customers that pay bills using the SafeBoda app. To enter the campaign, take a screenshot of your SafeBoda paybill receipt and post it between 1:00 PM to 1:59 PM.
