Exciting news for mobile network users in Nigeria! The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has initiated a new USSD code framework, leading to the implementation of unified codes across all network providers. Previously, each network operator had its unique USSD codes for accessing services. However, in March 2023, the NCC directed all telecommunication providers to harmonize their USSD codes by May 17, 2023.

The New Unified USSD Codes
Following the NCC’s review, here are the newly introduced unified USSD codes:
- NIN: *996#
- VAS: *305#
- Share services: *321#
- Account Balance: *310#
- Data plans: *312#
- Airtime recharge: *311#
- Borrowing services: *303#
- Data balance: *323#
While not all network providers have fully implemented these codes, users can still utilize the old codes to access USSD services. For instance, MTN has implemented all the codes except for data plans, while Airtel has adopted all except for airtime recharge. It is expected that other network providers will fully implement these changes soon.
