Predictive text is an input technology that facilitates typing on a mobile device by suggesting words to the end-user depending on the few letters entered in the text box. The word suggestion feature predicts the correct spelled word in order to alternate mishaps with your typos. Therefore, if you think the suggested word meets your preference, click on it and it will be added to your text box. Here is how you can turn on and off Word suggestions on Android.
How to Turn on Word Suggestion on Android
1. Launch the Settings app on your Android device.
2. Then select “System” from the list of displayed options. For other devices, you can tap on “Additional Settings“.
3. Tap on “Languages and Input“.
4. Select “On-Screen Keyboard“. All the on-screen keyboards installed on your Android device will be displayed.
5. Click on the on-screen keyboard that you use. I use GBoard.
6. Tap on “Text Correction“.
7. Toggle on the “Show Suggestion Strip” option.
8. You can also toggle on the Emoji Suggestion, sticker suggestion, and next-word suggestion.
9. After you have successfully turned on the word suggestion feature, you can exit the Settings app then go ahead and try out the feature in any of your Messaging apps.
How to Turn Off Word Suggestion on Android
1. Launch your WhatsApp app on your Android device.
2. Select a chat as preferred.
3. Click in the text box to launch the Keyboard.
4. Long press and hold the comma (,) button on your keyboard.
5. Next, tap on the Keyboard settings option (gear icon).
6. Tap on “Text Correction“.
7. Toggle off the “Show Suggestion Strip” option.
8. You can also toggle off the Emoji Suggestion, sticker suggestion, and next-word suggestion.
9. After you have successfully turned off the word suggestion feature, you can exit the Settings app then go ahead and try out the feature in any of your Messaging apps. You will realize that you are not receiving word suggesting anymore.
