On your Android TV home page, Google displays ‘Cinematic Highlights’ that show sponsored content recommendations for both apps that you have subscribed for or not.
Before we dive deep, do you know what homescreen ads are and what they consist of? Well, when you open the home page of your Android TV device, you’ll view arow that is marked sponsored or a “Google Play Staff Pick.” Luckily, these recommendations do not auto-play audio or video previews. It is no doubt that the homescreen ads scoop a huge portion of your screen forcing you to develop the urge to turn off homescreen ads on your Android TV.
Step 1: Uninstall Updates on the Android TV Home App
The first step towards disabling Android TV’s home screen Ads will require the user to uninstall updates under the Android TV Home app.
1. To turn off ads from your Android TV’s home screen, select the Android TV Settings app (gear icon) then press OK. Under general settings, click “Apps”. List of “Recent Apps” will pop up on the screen, scroll down and select “See All Apps“.
2. Next, scroll down to the bottom of the ‘Installed Apps” and click on “Show System Apps“.
3. Select “Android TV Home” from the list of system apps and press ‘OK” on your remote to open it.
4. Now, scroll down and on “Uninstall Updates” then press ‘OK’.
Step 2: Disable PlayStore’s Auto-updates
In step 1, you have uninstalled updates for the apps on your Android TV home, however, you still need to disable the Home App updates on Google Play Store.
1. Press the home button to launch the home page then select the ‘Settings app’. Now, select ‘Apps’ under general settings, click on “Play Store” then open the app on your Android TV.
2. Next open Play Store ‘Settings’ then ‘Click on Auto-update Apps’.

3. Finally, select “Don’t auto-update apps” to ensure that the Google Home app does not update itself.

Note: You will need to update apps manually on Play Store.
