Facebook gives you two options in this case: To delete or deactivate your Facebook account. The first could have been easier, in the next option we shall deactivate the Facebook account permanently.

Facebook gives you a lot of attention whenever you choose to deactivate your account as such “Deactivation” is not the same as leaving Facebook.

Facebook will keep your timeline information, friends won’t contact or see your profile, won’t post or receive any friend request, you’ll lose access to all those third-party services that use (or require) Facebook for login but they will still save your information on their servers.

However, this might not be the case with you and you still need to delete or deactivate your Facebook account permanently. The step-by-step guidelines below will help you through deactivating your Facebook account permanently.

    Facebook account Deletion

If you want to fully deactivate your Facebook account permanently or perhaps you want to delete it for good. You’ll need to go to the Delete my Facebook account page.

But before you think of even deleting your account make sure you download a copy of all your Facebook data on Facebook—posts, photos, videos, chats, etc.—from the settings menu (under “General”).

How to download a copy of my Facebook information.

If you want to download a copy of your Facebook data, you can use the download your information tool.

Step 1: Go to the top right-hand corner of your Facebook home page and select the drop-down menu.

After you’ve made a download request, it will appear as Pending in the Available Files section of the Download Your Information Tool. It may take several days for Facebook to finish preparing your download request.

After they have finished preparing your download request, you’ll receive a notification from Facebook.

Deletion of Facebook account on behalf of others

Facebook allows you to delete Facebook accounts on behalf of other users. Sometimes these users may be minors below 13 years of age or perhaps a friend who lost an account to a hacker.

Facebook bans kids under 13 to comply with federal law—it will delete the account instantly, without informing anyone.

But for you to delete someone else’s Facebook account, you must prove to be a guardian of the user in question such as by the power of attorney, death certificate, or any other document legally accepted by Facebook.

If you have a deceased friend’s account and you need to access it, you can easily do so by contacting Facebook via the legacy contact.

The legacy contact may need to provide a link to an obituary or other documentation such as a death certificate. Facebook will “memorialize” the page so the deceased timeline lives on (under control of the legacy contact, who can’t post as you), or if preferred, remove it.
