Before delving into the export process, it’s essential to comprehend what data you can export from ChatGPT. ChatGPT primarily stores textual conversations, which include queries, responses, and any additional context provided during the interaction. While ChatGPT does not store personal information about users, the conversations themselves might contain sensitive or private content, necessitating careful handling during export. Here is what you should do;
- Delete sensitive ChatGPT chats.
- Rename your ChatGPT conversations.
How to Export All Your Chats and Data from ChatGPT
1. Log in to your ChatGPT account.
2. Navigate to the conversation history section, where your past interactions with ChatGPT are saved.
3. If you want to export a short text from your chat, you can simply use the standard copy (Ctrl-C) and paste (Ctrl-V) commands to the desired destination or copy the link for a particular chat and share it with whoever you prefer. However, if you want to export whole chats, click on your Name at the bottom left corner of the screen and select the Settings option.
4. Select Data Controls followed by Export. Before you confirm the data export action be reminded that your account details and chats will be included in the export and the data will be sent to your registered email in a downloadable file.
5. To proceed, click “Confirm export” below.
6. Go ahead and check your email inbox, tap on the email from Open AI, and click on Download Data Export. The download link will expire 24 hours after you receive it.
