If you’re reading this, then I assume you must have faced this problem. “WhatsApp warns insufficient storage available on my phone yet I have more space.” This error warning normally happens for smartphones that are either not genuine products or duplicate copies of the original ones (but even original smartphones can be affected) For example, I have seen this happen on phones like Techno. A Techno smartphone with 8GB internal storage still warns of insufficient storage available for WhatsApp use. This is ridiculous, right? Yeah. How can my phone say insufficient storage yet I have space (almost 7GB unused)? This article is going to show you how to exactly solve this warning “WhatsApp says insufficient storage yet I have enough space on my phone”. If you can’t install a new WhatsApp App on your device because of insufficient storage, then do the following;

For Android;

Method 1: Clear Play Cache.

  1. Go to the Phone’s Settings.
  2. Tap Apps & notifications > App info > then Google Play Store.
  3. Under Google Play store, select Storage and then Clear Cache.
  4. Press Clear Data > then OK
  5. Now restart your phone and try installing WhatsApp Again.

Method 2: Move Apps to External Storage (SD Card)

If the problem persists further and you still can’t install WhatsApp due to insufficient storage available on your phone, here are some tips on how to create space on your phone. In the very first step, we shall need to clear all our phone cache to create some space by following the procedures below; Remember, usually the internal memory is subdivided into two parts, the first part may only be for applications and the other to keep everything that you want. Sometimes the space for Application storage is bumped up implying you need to free up some space.
  1. Go to your phone’s Settings and select Storage.
  2. Move all your data and apps to external storage (SD Card).
  3. Delete Apps you’re no longer using.
  4. Then next, you may need to look into these hidden WhatsApp folders below. Remember, you can only access these folders with a file manager.
  • The folder for photos is located under:/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Images/Sent
  • The folder for videos is located under:/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Video/Sent
  • The folder for voice messages is located under:/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Voice Notes
Important to Note: Deleting any of the above WhatsApp photos, videos or voice messages means you won’t be able to view or listen to them again. Before installing or updating an app on your phone, you may always need a minimum of 1 GB of free space (Recommended). READ ALSO: How To Fix ‘WhatsApp Couldn’t Link Device’ Error

Create Space for WhatsApp iPhone

If you do use WhatsApp for iPhone and still face this warning “Sorry, there isn’t enough room on your iPhone to restore from your iCloud backup. Make room by deleting existing videos or photos and try again.” This is how you can create enough storage space for your WhatsApp iPhone.

In your iCloud.

Not everything on your phone is necessarily in iCloud. To control this;
  1. Go to your iPhone’s Settings.
  2. Tap iCloud and scroll down to see a list of items synchronized to the iCloud
  3. Make any appropriate changes to free up some space.

On your iPhone

Storage on your iPhone is controlled under settings, to free up some space for WhatsApp;
  1. Go to Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage
  2. Under STORAGE – Manage your Storage by scrolling down to see the apps that are consuming your storage (highest storage usage first)
  3. Now, Go into the highest usage apps and delete any obsolete data.
Note: Completing this task might free up enough space to solve your WhatsApp insufficient Space problem on iPhone. However, if this doesn’t solve your problem, read the following sections below.

Method 2: Reset all settings

If the above method hardly worked for you, try to factory reset all your settings. This option will erase all your previous iPhone settings but may help you solve the above problem.
  1. Go to your iPhone Settings
  2. Tap General > Reset all settings
  3. Data will remain intact and everything will now work fine for you.

Free up Space with WhatsApp’s inbuilt Feature

In 2017, WhatsApp launched its new feature that will make it easier for you to free up space on your phone without deleting everything and losing messages you care about. The feature is WhatsApp inbuilt ( Storage Management ) into its settings menu on Android and will help you to mass-delete specific types of messages from conversations while saving others.

How does the feature work?

  1. Open WhatsApp and Go to Settings
open settings 2. Under Settings > Data and Storage Usage > Storage Usage under settings 3. Under Storage Usage, you’ll see a list of your conversations, ranked by how much space they’re taking up on your phone. 4. Tap these messages to see any detailed breakdown of all different types of chats i.e images, gifs, texts, documents, audio, contacts, location in the conversations. 5. Tap on the Manage Messages button at the bottom of the screen which lets you select either to delete a few sections or all. With this WhatsApp feature, you can get rid of all videos in a conversation but keep everything else. On the other hand, you can also delete everything in the conversation and keep the messages. For iOS or iPhone users, this feature has been around for some time. You can find it on your iPhone by following the steps below.
  1. Open WhatsApp on iPhone
  2. Go to Settings > Data and Storage Usage -> Storage Usage (WhatsApp old version: WhatsApp Settings -> Account -> Storage Usage -> Size)
  3. You’ll find the biggest conversation on your WhatsApp.
  4. You can choose to remove the biggest conversation or specific items such as audio, documents, texts, contacts, location, and images from your WhatsApp Storage.
Doing this will create enough space that will help solve your WhatsApp insufficient problem. If you can’t find this feature on your WhatsApp iPhone, consider updating your WhatsApp version.

Hard Reset your phone.

If all the above methods don’t work for you, then you may decide to hard reset. I don’t recommend this method but it works very accurately and at the same time imposes consequences of losing your data. Before considering hard resetting your iPhone or Android device, I recommend you back up your files with AnyTrans for Android or AnyTrans for the cloud.

Hard Reset For Android

You can easily reset your Android through the Settings menu. The location of the factory reset may vary depending on the device, but once you find the backup and reset menu, you will see a Factory Data Reset button which you should tap to set it off

Hard Reset For iPhone

1. Go to Settings > General > Reset and then select Erase All Content and Settings. 2. Enter your Passcode if you have one, and a warning box will appear, with the option to Erase your iPhone (or iPad) in red. Tap this. 3.  Enter your Apple ID password to confirm the action. Everything will be wiped to the initial screen you first used on your iPhone.

Conclusion

Doing any of the above steps will take you to a point where the above WhatsApp insufficient storage warning never surfaces again. If you still have any issues with the above steps, drop us your comment in the section below and we shall be glad to help.
