Forgetting your phone password or Android pattern is one of the commonest issues with having maximum security to your phone. Who would use a simple pattern that is easy to guess?—almost no one. While we endeavor to incorporate a sophisticated security key into our phones, we should always mind whether those patterns or keys are easy for us to remember. However, what do you do when you forget your phone password on android devices?
I will take you through different simple steps that will help you when you forget your phone password. Note that, you may lose data that was previously stored on the internal memory storage of your android device. Follow the steps below to accomplish this.
Do this when you forget your phone password
- Reset your phone using “Find My Phone”
This application is usually used when you have lost (Someone has stolen) your phone. You may use it to erase all data in your phone by doing this;
Use another phone and click on android.com/find using the usual Google account you have been using on your phone
If you have ever accessed your account using multiple devices, they will be listed here.
Select the phone whose data you want to erase.
Click ERASE DEVICE
Then press the ERASE DEVICE button
Once that is done, you will need to set up your phone again.
- Reset your phone using the recovery mode
Getting into the recovery mode may vary from phone to phone. However, I will give a general overview of what you need to know and also share different steps for specific phones. You will need to look for your phone and then follow those steps that apply specifically to your phone.
- First power off your device
- Now hold down the Volume Up button together with the Power button.
- Release the Power button when the startup screen appears
- Wait for 3 seconds and then release the Volume Up button too.
- At this moment, your phone will enter recovery mode
- Use the Volume buttons to select Wipe data/factory reset.
- Now confirm your selection with the Volume buttons to select Wipe data/factory reset.
For HTC phones
- Power off your phone by holding down the Power button
- Hold down Power button and hold the Volume down button together until the Download mode is displayed
- When the screen menu will appears, press the Volume down button to highlight ‘Recovery Mode’.
- Now select ‘WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET’ and press the Power button to accomplish the task
For reset LG phones:
- Power off your device
- Hold down Volume down button and the Power Lock button together for at least 10 seconds.
- Release both buttons when the System recovery screen is displayed.
- You will now scroll to the ‘Factory Data Reset’ option by using the Volume buttons
- Then, press the Power button to select.
- When that is done, press the Volume buttons to select “Yes”, then the power button to confirm.
For Google Pixel 3, Pixel 2, Pixel XL, or Nexus 6P
The first step is to power off your phone. To do this, you will hold down the Power button
When it has finally shut down, now hold down the Power button together with the Volume button. Don’t release them unless your phone boots into Fastboot Mode.

- Here you will find a number of menu options. Use the Volume up and down buttons to find Recovery Mode.
- Once you get to it, press the Power Button to select it.
- Go on to Press and hold the Power button, then press the Volume up button.
- Another menu will appear with other commands.
- You will still use the Volume buttons to move to “Wipe data/factory reset”
- Use the Power button to select it.

Another way to open your phone when you have lost the pin or password is by connecting it to a trusted Bluetooth network.

Fingerprints lately have simplified the means of logging into handheld devices without the need for pins and patterns.

This is for phones that have the on-body detection feature. This feature enables the phone to detect that you are carrying it in your hands, so, it will stay unlocked.
