There have been talks around the tech space questioning the existence of the giant phone maker company Huawei over the last few weeks, especially when the company was blacklisted in the United States.

The USA asked all its trade associates like Australia and others to shun the operations of the company in their countries. This left a big question of whether Africa is willing to do the same for a giant company like Huawei with wide coverage in the continent.

Back to Uganda, the company has invested a lot in the Ugandan technology infrastructure supporting a number of networking equipment used by the government.

Is Uganda willing to shun Huawei operations in the country because of the USA trade conflicts and propaganda that the 5G network from the company will violate data privacy for citizens?

I think the whole idea for Uganda shunning Huawei business is something which the country may not be close to agreeing with. Lets first understand why Uganda is the biggest consumer of Chinese products.

Uganda like any other African countries prefer affordable equipment, if Huawei is doing this for them, then no African country is almost thinking of shunning Huawei operations in their countries.

As we watch the space and more unfolding events, let’s see where this unfolds especially following that Huawei has taken the states to court over the conflicts.
