With over 3,600+ movies and more than 1,800 TV shows available to Netflix subscribers, it is safe to wonder if all that content is worth watching. That is why Netflix introduced parental control settings. Netflix parental control allows subscribers to monitor and restrict access to particular content. If you have young kids, you would not want them to stumble on movies/shows rated 18+. Here is how you can use Netflix’s parental control options to set pin lock for Netflix profiles and create PG ratings.

How to use Parental Control options

Netflix offers you a variety of Parental control options for instance; viewing restrictions, profile lock, and viewing activity.

1. Viewing Restrictions

This feature enables you to adjust and control what shows or movie titles should appear in a particular profile according to program ratings. You can select All,7+,13+,16+,18+. There is also a provision for you to block movie titles regardless of the rating.

How to Create Viewing Restrictions for a Netflix Profile

1. Go to Netflix.com.

2. Tap on your profile then click on the drop-down menu just next to your profile picture and select “Account.”

3. Under “Profile and Parental Controls” tap on the profile.

4. Click on “Change” aligned on Viewing Restrictions.

5. Enter your Netflix account password.

6. Under “Profile maturity Rating;”

  • Tap “All” to only see show titles rated All for that particular profile.
  • Select “7+” to only see show titles rated 7 and below.
  • Tap “13+” to only see show titles rated 13years and below.
  • Tap “16+” to only see show titles rated 16years and below.
  • Select “18+” to show titles of all maturity ratings.

7. Under the “Title Ratings” enter specific titles that you do not want to show on this profile regardless of the Maturity rating.

8. Click the save button.

2. Profile Lock

It makes no sense for you to create a kid’s profile and give free access to adult profiles. To make profiles private, you can choose to set up a 4 digit pin lock.

How to PIN Lock a Netflix Profile

1. Launch your browser, then search for netflix.com and log into your account.

2. Tap on your profile then click on the drop-down menu just next to your profile picture and select “Account.”

3. Under “Profile and Parental Controls” tap on the profile you want to lock.

4. Select “Profile Lock” then tap on “Change.” At this stage, the Profile lock status will show off.

5. You will be prompted to enter your account password in order to edit the profile lock for that particular Netflix profile.

6. Next, select the tiny box for a blue tick to appear against “Require a PIN to access X’s profile). Create a 4 digit Profile lock PIN. Hereafter you will enter the created PIN to open the locked profile unless you are using an unsupported device. To require a PIN any time a new profile is added to your account, select Require PIN to add new profiles.

7. Finalize by clicking “Save” to save the changes. Now, refresh your account by signing out and signing in again for the established settings to show. From now on the lock profile will have a padlock icon against it.

3. Viewing Activity

In order to properly monitor your kid, you need to understand what content they have previously watched. The “Viewing Activity” feature gives access to Netflix watching the history of each profile.

How to Check your Viewing Activity on Netflix

1. Go to Netflix.com.

2. Tap on your profile then click on the drop-down menu just next to your profile picture and select “Account.”

3. Under “Profile and Parental Controls” tap on the profile.

4. Click on Viewing Activity.

How to Create a Kids Profile

1. Go to Netflix.com.

2. Tap on your Netflix profile and click on the dropdown menu just next to your profile icon.

3. Select “Manage Profiles.”

4. Tap on “Add Profile.”

5. Enter the “Name” of the profile.”

6. Check the kid’s box for the profile viewer to watch shows and movies rated for ages 12 and below.
