As you may have noticed Phishing is the illegal collection of a users private information such as address , bank account , credit card information and others for purposes of hacking and gaining unauthorized access to your bank accounts .
If you’re an outlook email user , it’s important to understand how to report Spam email on Outlook .
Outlook just like any other email services provides a number of options on how to report Spam emails and phishing scams .

Report Spam email in Outlook .
To report to Outlook that you’ve received a Spam email that threatens to gain access to your private data such as bank account , credit card information and others , do some of the things below.
The steps may slightly be different depending on the version of outlook.com you’re using . Choose your version of outlook.com and follow the steps as indicated .

If you found an email in your outlook.com beta account that you think is Spam , you’ll need to first mark the email as Junk then Phishing Scam .

To do this follow the steps below :-
- Choose the email you want to mark as Phishing scam and select Junk on the command bar . ( You can also Right click and select Mark as Junk )
2. Go to the Junk Email Folder and then select Not Junk > phishing to report the Spam email sender .
Important to Note :

If you feel that wasn’t enough , you can report Spam email outlook by forwarding the email as an attachment to [email protected] .

If you suspect you received a phishing email from unknown contact , report the spam email by clicking the arrow next to Junk and select any of the following options below .
- Junk – Use this option for routine unwanted emails .
- Phishing Scam – You can use this option if you think the message you received is attempting to collect your private information such as bank accounts , credit card information , address and others .
- My Friend’s been hacked – If you’re receiving Spam email from contact you normally trust or someone told you that their outlook account was hacked , You can use this option to report the sender .
Important to Note :

How to protect yourself from Spam and phishing scam.
If you received an email from unknown senders acting to be legitimate and pretend to have colossal sums of money , there are several steps you can take to protect yourself from such as scam .
The intension of most phishing scams is to get your personal information such as bank account , credit card information , address with purpose of stealing your bank money .
If you receive emails with the following subject lines and content then you should be suspicious .
- You have won big ! ( Congratulations! You just won the lottery! Or you were entered in a Microsoft sweepstakes and you’ve won the jackpot! )
Intension : Need Your personal information so they can steal your identity and empty your bank accounts.
What to do : Don’t reply to such an email or attempt to give them your personal information . They are trying to steal your identity and steal your bank money .
- Help ! My father..! ( My father is from Egypt and died but left me huge sums of money and i would like to wire this money to Your account )
Intension : Need Your personal info so they can steal your identity and empty your bank accounts.
What to do : Do not respond to such an email . You should consider marking it as spam and block the sender .

If you (don’t) forward this email, something (bad) good will happen! ( Forward this email and Microsoft will send you $500! Forward this petition to keep Outlook a free service! Warn all your friends about this scary computer virus! )
Intension : To watch their hoax go viral and brag to their scammer friends.
What to do :
- If it’s about a computer virus or any other security threat, visit your antivirus software website and look at the latest threat info.
- You can use hoax-debunking website like snopes.com and search on the email’s subject.

Report the spam email as Junk (see “Report a phishing scam” above).
Note : Other suspicious emails may include the following .

A large sum of money can be yours, just send us your personal info or some cash
- We request to verify your account immediately or we shall close it soon .
- A request for emergency financial help from a friend who is supposedly on vacation
- A notification that your credit card has been hacked
Abuse and Spam aren’t the same .
Spam ( phishing ) emails isn’t the same with abuse . If you’re receiving harassment emails such as threats , impersonation, child exploitation, child pornography, or other illegal activities via your outlook email , then you should consider reporting the sender to local law enforcement authorities .
You can also report email abuse to outlook.com by using any of the two options below .
- To report abuse received from a non-Outlook.com account, go to https://www.abuse.net to identify the correct abuse reporting address.
- To report harassment, impersonation, child exploitation, child pornography, or other illegal activities received via an Outlook.com account, forward the offending email as an attachment to [email protected]. Include any relevant info, such as the number of times you’ve received messages from the account and the relationship, if any, between you and the sender.
