Sometimes if you want friends and family to meet you at a hangout or when you visiting an unknown or even for security reasons, you could decide to share your location on your iPhone. That way, contacts that you have shared your location details with are able to track your movements or spot your pinned location where they should meet you. As you plan on sharing a location, location services should be enabled on your iPhone.

How to Enable Location Services on your iPhone

Before you can share your location with anyone, you should make sure location services are turned on.

1. Open the Settings app.

2. Tap “Privacy” and then tap “Location Services.”

3. Ensure Location Services is on by swiping the slider to the right.

Method 1: Share Location Using Find My App on your iPhone

1. Start the Find My app on your iPhone.

2. Click on the “People” tab.

3. Select Share My Location or Start Sharing Location.

4. Enter the name or phone number of the person you want to share your location with.

5. Select Send.

6. Choose to share your location for One Hour, Until the End of the Day, or Share Indefinitely.

7. Select OK.

8. To disable location, go to the contact you shared location within the Find My app then select Stop Sharing Location.

Method 2: Share Location Using Phone App/Contacts on your iPhone

1. Start the phone app on your iPhone and search for the contact that you want to share location details with.

2. Tap on the contact.

3. Scroll down to and click on “Share My Location.”

4. From the new pop-up menu, you can share the location for 1 hour, for a day, or indefinitely.

5. At this point, your location will be shared with your contact only if you enabled location services. If disabled the services, you will be prompted to enable location services to proceed.

6. If the sharing was successful, the share my location option will turn to “Stop Sharing My Location“. If you want to stop sharing locations, click on it.

Method 3: Share Location Using Apple Maps on your iPhone

1. Open Apple Maps.

2. Tap the blue dot that indicates your location (if you don’t see it on the screen, tap the arrow in the upper right to put your position in the middle of the map).

3. In the pop-up menu, tap “Share My Location.”

4. Choose the app you want to use to share your location, and then use that app to choose the person you want to share with.

Method 4: Share Location via Messages on your iPhone

1. Launch a chat conversation with the person with whom you want to share your location.

2. Click on the profile icon on the top of the screen and select “info” from the pop-up menu.

3. Tap on “Send My Current Location” If you want to send your current location.

4. However, if you want to share your location for a definite period of time, tap “Share My Location,” and then choose how long you want your location to be visible — an hour, for the rest of the day, or forever.
