WorldRemit slashes its costs effective today in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. All WorldRemit customers, regardless of the kind of transaction, shall be charged a flat fee of $0.99, which is approximately UGX 3,724.38.

Previously, the transfers were slightly costly, but now with the advent of the Corona pandemic, World Remit wishes to extend a cutback in the transaction fees, to make transactions cheaper and encourage people to make mobile transactions more, as a way to caution themselves on social distancing, a thing that all humans should practice much more now than they ever have.

For the record, WorldRemit handles over 74% remittances to mobile money services. It is in partnership with a thread of local mobile money transfer services in different African countries, some of which include;

  • Airtel Money
  • M-Pesa
  • Tigo Pesa

Previously,

On sending UGX 376,200 ($100), WorldRemit has been charging UGX 7,486.38 ($1.99)

For sending UGX 752,400 ($200), there was a charge of UGX 11,248.38 ($2.99)

And finally, on sending UGX 3,762,000 ($1000), there was a charge of UGX 22,534.38 ($5.99)

How to transfer money with WorldRemit

  • Download the WorldRemit app from App Store or Google Playstore, or Register for free on the WorldRemit Website.
  • Make sure you have all the details of the person you’re sending money to.
