WhatsApp is getting a new update that will allow the group chat admins to ‘demote’ or ‘dismiss’ other admins, without having to remove them first and later add them to revoke their admin rights. This feature is reported to be under testing by WhatsApp on both Android and iOS platforms. As for the Android, this feature is available in WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.18.12. Also, WhatsApp has added new features to its WhatsApp Business beta app that hint at the official launch of the app.

According to WABetaInfo, that watches WhatsApp’s new features closely, the new option called ‘Dismiss as Admin’ is available in the Group Info section of a group chat. This will allow a group administrator to ‘dismiss’ other administrators without removing them from the group. In the current stable version of WhatsApp, group admins only see the Remove Participant option that first removes an admin participant, also revoking them of the admin rights. While the feature is currently available for WhatsApp for Android beta v2.18.12, it is also being tested for iOS, the report added.

The Facebook-owned company also seems to be clearing the decks for the launch of the business counterpart of its popular messaging app. WhatsApp Business, which is currently available in beta version, has received a new feature aimed at businesses, as per WABetaInfo. The WhatsApp Business beta version 2.18.3 brings a new feature called Labels. The Labels in WhatsApp Business will be exactly similar to that inside Gmail service. It will allow businesses to ‘filter’ chats and messages to classify them easily.

In the screenshots shared by WABetaInfo, the Labels – Prospect, Paid, New Order, Pending Payment, and Order Complete – come preset. However, you can also add a customised Label, the colour of which is selected by WhatsApp itself. Of course, the Labels can be removed from a chat. This will help in segregating the chats according to the order and payment status of the customers. The list of chats that have been marked some Label can be seen by selecting the Labels option.

This development strongly indicates that the company is planning to officially launch WhatsApp Business app soon. WhatsApp recently published an FAQ on its website that answered most of the questions that are likely to be asked by the users. According to the information published in the FAQ, “While chatting with businesses, you can check your contact’s profile to see which type of account they’re using. A verified account has a green checkmark badge on its profile.” The company further adds, “A business account with a grey question mark badge in its profile means the account is using the WhatsApp Business app but hasn’t been confirmed nor verified by WhatsApp.”
