After rumors last year (2018) that soon Whatsapp might bring ads to the platform, this has finally been stamped and confirmed.
Whatsapp has finally confirmed (at Facebook’s annual Facebook Marketing Summit in the Netherlands) that in 2020, the application will have advertisements. These shall appear in the stories as explained below.
Just like in Instagram, the name of the company shall be on top. The advert shall then be displayed on your full screen. There shall be a swipe up option in case you are interested in the advert.
Whatsapp has been a target to market ads, and obviously, its owners are looking to redeem some dollars come 2020.
With a lot of existing apps on the market (like Telegram), this risks WhatsApp to lose its loyal clientele to other advert-free options.
Let’s hope 2020 shall be a good year for WhatsApp.
