It’s absurd for all Windows Smartphone users since WhatsApp revealed that it won’t provide WhatsApp versions for Windows phones after this month. This means that WhatsApp shall stop working on windows phones this year, No more WhatsApp for windows phones people next year.

The messaging app is still available for Windows but it was clear that come 31st December, WhatsApp will eliminate windows phones from its list of supported devices. Microsoft has decided to end support for Windows phone software due to a lack of market penetration and disinterest from app developers. The company advised people to invest in iOS and Android devices.

Who phones are affected?

Nonetheless, it looks like Windows Smartphone users are not the only ones into a real mess. It is clear that WhatsApp shall stop working on iPhone and several Android phones as well before we break into the New Year.

It was noted that come February 1, 2020. Everyone using Android versions 2.3.7 or older will not be able to create new accounts or re-verify his/her existing accounts. This is a real blow since many people across the world and in Uganda particularly are using WhatsApp as a business tool for marketing and promoting their products.

On the other hand, the big dogs of the iPhone might be affected too. iPhone users are yet to say goodbye to this popular and amazing messaging app of the century. This mostly applies to everyone using iOS 8 or older.

What to do next?

There is not much to do about it. In any case, if you are using any of the above-listed versions of those phones, the only thing you can do now is to upgrade to another phone or software version that is still supported.

On the other hand, if that fails then another option is to save your chat history before you lose it forever. Below are simple steps that can guide you in backing up your chats.

  1. Open WhatsApp and tap on More  > settings > chats and calls.
  2. Tap backup.

After that, you will be able to restore the backup when you get back on WhatsApp another day with another supported phone.
