Before you use the Google Translate app offline, you will need need to download the Google Translate app and download preferred languages while you are still online.
- Download and install the Google Translate app on your phone if you do not have it already. Once you have successfully downloaded the app, launch it on your phone.
- Next, you will be prompted to select and download the primary languages. These are the languages that you intend to frequently get translations from. To download, tap on the profile icon in the top right and select “Downloaded Languages” from the menu bar. On the next page, you will be able to see downloaded languages and all other available languages that you can download. Scroll down and tap on the download icon against the language that you want to download. If it asks you to download the language file, tap Download. Once the language download is complete, the downloaded language will be denoted with a check mark.
How to Use the Google Translate app Offline
Translating between languages without the internet will only be possible if the user downloaded languages prior with an active internet connection. Here is how to use the Google Translate app offline.
Step 1: Start the Google Translate app on your mobile phone.
Step 2: On the home page, you will be prompted to select two primary languages (the language you wish to translate from and the language that you want to translate to). Unfortunately for the offline version, only already downloaded languages will be available for use.
Step 3: Click on the Conversation button and allow the app to access the microphone.
Step 4: Tap the microphone button at the bottom and start speaking as Google translates the conversation for you. Just like that, you will have to use the Google Translate app offline.
