What is a Twitter Circle?
A Twitter circle is a group of Twitter users connected to each other through mutual interests or shared social networks. The term can also refer to clusters of users who interact with each other regularly, such as in conversations, retweets, and likes. Using this feature, the Twitter user gets to select people who can receive their Tweets.
A Twitter circle is a great way to build relationships, expand one’s network and keep up-to-date on what’s happening in the lives of the Circle users while still maintaining privacy.
Important Notes About Twitter Circle
- Between 1 to 150 Twitter users can be added to a Twitter Circle. These could be from your follower list or anyone on the platform.
- People who are currently in your Twitter Circle can see any Twitter Circle Tweets you’ve shared as well as any non-protected replies to those Tweets. If a circle member keeps a protected account, only their followers who are in your Twitter Circle can see their replies.
- You can only have one Twitter circle. However, you could be added to various Twitter circles as a circle member.
- The proprietor of the Twitter circle can view the full list of circle members. Other circle members can not although they can track circle members if they interact (like and Comment) with your tweet. Interactions from protected accounts will not be visible to non-followers.
- People in your Twitter Circle can’t use the Retweet icon to share your Twitter Circle Tweets on Twitter, or in their own Twitter Circle. However, Twitter Circle members can still download, capture, or re-share images or screenshots of your Twitter Circle content.
- At any one point, you can choose to leave a Twitter circle that you were added to. All you have to do is, unfollow, mute, or block the Twitter Circle proprietor.
How to Create a Circle on Twitter?
Twitter is a social media platform that allows users to post and share content, such as text-based messages, images, video clips, or other items.
Users can create groups or “circles” on Twitter to narrow down the people who see their tweets. This helps them to follow the topics they are interested in and easily filter out what they don’t want to see.
To create a new circle on Twitter:
Step 1: Log in to your Twitter account.
Step 2: Click the “Me” icon at the top of the page.
Step 3: Select “Twitter Circle” from the drop-down menu.
Step 4: You will be referred to the “Edit your Twitter Circle” page which fronts two options; Twitter Circle and Recommended.
- Under the Twitter Circle option, you get to see members of your Twitter Circle.
- The Recommended option allows adding individuals to your Twitter circle.
Step 5: To create a Twitter Circle, select the Recommended option displayed at the top bar right below Edit your Twitter Circle. Now go ahead and tap Add button against any user that you want to add to your Twitter circle. To view members of your Twitter Circle, tap on the Twitter Circle option below Edit your Twitter Circle. If you do not want someone in your Twitter Circle, tap the Remove button against the Twitter user that you want out.
Step 6: Now that you have successfully created a Twitter Circle and added your preferred members, the next step is how you can send tweets to your unique group of tweet receivers. Hit the Tweet Composer button. Before you type your message, select your audience as Twitter Circle. By default, your Tweet audience will reflect as public, tap on that dropdown menu and select Twitter Circle. At this particular stage, you can choose to edit your Twitter circle by clicking on Edit, this will take you back to step 4. Once you have selected Twitter Circle as your audience, type your message and add media if you wish then tap on the Tweet button. This particular tweet will appear on the timeline of only members of your Twitter circle.
