The Big Ideas Contest invades Makerere University: Here is what you should know

Do you have a big idea? An innovative and creative idea that has been lurking around in your mind and wish to execute it? The Big Ideas Contest is a forum targetted at providing funding, support, and encouragement to interdisciplinary teams of undergraduate and graduate students who have ‘Big Ideas’.

The Big Ideas Contest has invaded Makerere University, and yesterday on the 16th of October held an info session where the techies and innovators from Makerere University College of Computing and Information Science (COCIS) were briefed on what to expect from this year’s competition.

This contest has been making rounds in the different colleges of Makerere University and other Universities around Uganda, and info sessions held to communicate to students on how to participate and what to expect. The goal is to solicit young and innovative minds to share their creative innovations, these must be social innovations. There are different packs that come with joining and winning the Big Ideas Contest.

Online proposal submissions are due November 20th, 12:00 pm PT (Pacific Time)

There are a number of projects from Makerere University which have won this contest, so this could be your lucky chance to follow in their footsteps. Some of these include: PedalTap, MoyoMedical, MamaOpe.

These inventions from Uganda have put Uganda on the maps of innovation, and yours could be the next.

About Big Ideas Contest

Bid Ideas is an early-stage, student-led, innovation contest that connects students with mentorship, training, and resources needed to successfully conceptualize, deploy and scale their social ventures.

Open to undergraduate and graduate students at Makerere University and 11 other Universities, the contest awards up to $300,000 in prizes annually.

The contest is hosted by the ResilientAfrica Network at Makerere University School of Public Health and is open to all graduate and undergraduate students at Makerere.
