By now, you must have noticed that certain public WiFi networks and also private WiFi networks that your Android TV was successfully connected to in the past will always connect to your device automatically every time both devices are in close proximity. Automatic connections are highly credited for saving time. The TV’s ability to connect automatically to a WiFi network is a good thing since you do not have to enter a password or username to connect to the WiFi network any time you want to use it. However, the same praised action can actually nag you. Fortunately, in such instances, you can choose to stop Wifi from connecting automatically on your Android TV.
Although Android TV does not show a systematic method of turning off automatic WiFi connections, forgetting a particular WiFi network will serve the purpose accurately. By forgetting the WiFi network, all the information that is used to connect to this network, including the saved password will be erased.
Step 1: Go to the home menu of your Android TV and select the Settings option.
Step 2: Under General Settings select Network and Internet.
Step 3: Enable WiFi network.
Step 4: Scroll down to and click on the WiFi network that you want to disable from connecting automatically.
Step 5: Scroll down to and select “Forget Network.”
Step 6: On the next page, you will be tasked to confirm the action of forgetting Network. Click the “OK” button. Forgetting the network will clear the information used to connect to this network, including the saved password. Once that is done, the WiFi network will stop connecting automatically to your Android TV. Repeat the steps listed above for all the WiFi Networks that you want to stop from connecting to your Android TV automatically. Now every time you want to connect to that particular network, you will have to do it manually. This means that you will have to select the WiFi network and enter the password and username if requested.
