Before you establish a partnership or sign any contract with a particular company, you need to run a background check to ensure that you are dealing with an authentic company. The first thing to do is search if the company is registered. Luckily, effective 7th June 2021, Uganda Registration Services Bureau shifted its database online making it possible for individuals with internet-enabled devices to access their services swiftly. That way, you can easily access information about a registered company anytime and anywhere.
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) is a semi-autonomous government agency, established by an Act of Parliament in 1998 Uganda. The organization is responsible for civil registrations, business registrations, registration of patents and intellectual property rights, and any other registrations required by law. However much URSB participates in registration of all kinds, it also provides information about registered companies. Search for a Registered Company Online in Uganda
1. On your computer/phone, launch the preferred browser and search for the URSB web portal.
2. Tap on the E-services dropdown menu, drag the cursor on “Business/Company Registration” and then select “Name Search” from the left menu.
3. The URSB’s Business Registration System (BRS) will launch.
4. Now, fill in the correct “captcha” and then key in the Business/Entity Name in the provided box.
5. Go ahead and tap on the “Search” button then patiently wait for the results to load.
6. Scroll down to view a list of company names similar to the business/entity name that you searched for.
Quick Note: At the highest rate, you might not be able to find the company name from the search portal just because most companies trade under different names from those they registered under. For instance, if you searched for the Sheraton Hotel, the search won’t return any results whatsoever. Sheraton is in fact registered as Apolo Hotel Corporation and was registered in 1998, a year before it was sold off.
