Searching for and certifying motor vehicle details online is a convenient way to gather important information about a vehicle. Whether you’re buying a used car, selling your own vehicle, or simply curious about the history of a particular car, there is a portal that could provide all the car details for you. Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has a long register on its web portal of almost all cars in Uganda and offers authentic search details and certifications. In this article, we’ll share with you the steps you can take to search for and certify motor vehicle details online in Uganda.

How to Search and Certify Motor Vehicle Details Online
In order to perform a successful motor vehicle search on the URA portal, the motor vehicle must be registered/validated on the website as well and the owner must have obtained a new log book. In that same case, the guide is grouped into two steps. Step 1-Certify Motor Vehicle Details and Step 2-Search for Motor Vehicle details. Let’s get started;
How to Certify Motor Vehicle Details Online in Uganda
1. Go to the URA web portal.
2. Click on eServices followed by More.
3. On the New page, scroll down to the Motor Vehicle section and click on Search and Certification.
4. Fill in the required application details which include TIN, name of the owner, and contact details. tap Next to go to the next step.
5. In the next section, fill in Search and Certification Details which are Vehicle Registration Number, type of application (Certified copies of records, Search fees, Search and Certification), enter a reason for the search, and the amount to be paid will reflect. Click Next.
Fees to be paid;
- Certified Copies of Records- UGX 40,000.
- Search Fees- UGX 20,000.
- Search and Certification- UGX 60,000.
Quick Note: When you apply for the search you only view the vehicle details on the URA web portal. When you apply for search and certification you view the vehicle details and also get a certified document with the vehicle details.
6. On the payments details section, select the preferred payment method, enter the text from the given image, and click Submit. Upon submission, you will receive an acknowledgment receipt with a PRN. Use it to make payments using the method that you choose.
Quick Note: The certified vehicle documents will be picked from the licensing officer from any URA office while as the search results will be viewed online.
How to Search Motor Vehicle Details in Uganda
In order to get motor vehicle search details you must have paid UGX 20,000.
1. Go to the URA web portal.
2. Click on eServices followed by More.
3. On the New page, scroll down to the Motor Vehicle section and click on Motor Vehicle Search details.
4. Enter the Acknowledgment number, Search code, and texts from the given image then tap Show Details. The acknowledgment number and search code were sent to the applicant via registered email during registration.
5. The car details should be displayed online.
6. URA will notify the applicant about your application status within 2 working days of receiving the application.
