Uganda’s SafeBoda is set to pause and shut down the Food and Shop delivery service feature on the SafeBoda app. The feature will be put to a halt next week on the 17th of August making it 2 years since its official rollout in late 2019.
The Food and Shop feature was introduced to allow the app users to shop and order food from their favorite restaurants and other merchandise on the Safeboda app which is delivered by the Safeboda riders at the customer’s doorstep. In the wake of the closure of the food and shop services on the SafeBoda app, over 700,000 meals have been delivered to places around Kampala.
In an email shared to all Safeboda customers, Safeboda applauds all customers who railed around the food delivery service.
In addition, Safe Boda affirms that it is eager to focus on offering a better SafeBoda Super App.
Since Safeboda’s launch in 2015, the app has extended its services from motorcycle hailing to food delivery, mobile money transaction, and yet-to-be-rolled-out car-hailing services. The food and shop services have been paused just after a few weeks of SafeBoda launching the beta testing of its Uber-like product called Cars by SafeBoda.
Unfortunately, in the shared email, SafeBoda does not mention the duration at which the Food and Shop services will be paused or even the exact date it will be continued.
