There are moments when your Roku remote will fail to compile with your demands or when some buttons just decide to misbehave. At such a moment, you might decide to check if the low battery levels are causing this error. However, to your shock, your battery levels are really high. What’s causing this error, you may ask? Well, you might never know the answer to that question however I guarantee that if you reset your Roku remote, the error will pass. This step-by-step guide will illustrate how you can reset your Roku Remote.
1. First, open the battery section on your remote and remove the batteries.
2. Next, unplug the power cable from your Roku receiver. Patiently hold for 5 seconds and then reconnect the power cable.
3. Reinsert the batteries in the remote when the Roku receiver displays the home screen. However, do not cover up the battery section just yet.
4. After re-inserting batteries in your Roku remote, find the pairing button on the bottom of the remote. Press and hold the pairing button inside the battery compartment for approximately 3 to 5 seconds or until you see the pairing light on the remote begin to flash. Older remotes do not have an indicator light.
Quick Note: If the light doesn’t flash, repeat this step. If it still doesn’t flash, replace the batteries in the remote.
5. Give the Remote approximately 30 seconds to establish a connection with the Roku receiver.
6. Once the connection is established, a remote pairing dialog will appear on the TV screen. And just like that, you will have reset your Roku remote. Kudos!!
Quick Note: The Roku IR remote doesn’t have pairing features like the Enhanced Remote and cannot be paired with a Roku receiver. To determine which remote you have, remove the battery cover on the back. If it’s an IR remote, there won’t be a pairing button at the bottom of the remote.
