I recently watched “Is It Cake” on Netflix and realized that most of my recommendations are now related to food and reality shows. I tried watching some other titles thinking the recommendations will disappear but they kept popping up, waiting for me to take a bait on them. That got me thinking about what I should do to clean up and reset my Netflix recommendations. Fortunately, I found a way of out-smarting the Netflix algorithm that’s responsible for the recommendations, and in this article, I will share with you a step-by-step guide on how to clean up and reset your Netflix recommendations.

If your memory serves you right, you will remember that you were prompted to select titles that interest you during the process of creating a Netflix profile. All the titles that you selected at that time, helped Netflix “jump-start” your recommendations. Over time, as you watch different titles on Netflix, new recommendations are formulated by the algorithms based on your recent watch history.

Netflix does not provide a straightforward method on how to reset your recommendations. It is widely known that the giant streaming platform uses watching history to offer personalized recommendations that helps subscribers find shows and movies of interest to them. Therefore by erasing watch history/Viewing activity, you will have reset the system that offers recommendations.

How to Reset Netflix Recommendations

Step 1: Launch your preferred web browser and go to Netflix.com.

Step 2: Sign in to your Netflix account.

Step 3: Upon successful login, select your Netflix profile.

Step 4: Tap on the drop-down icon next to the profile icon in the upper right corner.

Step 5: From the popup menu, select “Account.”

Step 6: Scroll down to “Profile & Parental Controls.”

Step 7: Under Profile & Parental Controls select Netflix profile.

Step 8: From the menu list, click on “Viewing Activity.” On the next page, you will be able to view all titles that you have watched on Netflix.

Step 9: On the Activity page, click the hide icon next to the episode or title you want to hide. If you hide an episode, you’ll see the option to hide the entire series. If you want to hide all of your viewing histories, select the Hide all option at the bottom of the page and confirm. It can take up to 24 hours for a hidden title to be removed from all your devices. Titles can’t be hidden if the Activity page is reached from a Netflix Kids profile.
