My Android TV has three HDMI ports which gives me three options of HDMI inputs. Now your Android TV might have more than three HDMI ports or less. Even though our Android TV HDMI ports might not equate in number, we all share the same hustle in figuring out which HDMI input is connected. By default, the HDMI inputs are named HDMI 1, HDMI 2, and HDMI 3 depending on the ports that your TV has. TV manufacturers display HDMI inputs on the HDMI ports at the back side of your TV, so while you are inserting the cable you can take notice of the input details. However, if your TV is mounted on the wall or you just do not remember which HDMI input is connected, you can choose to rename or label your Android TV’s HDMI input.
As much as the Android TV presents options for connecting devices wirelessly, the easy has always been and will always be connecting your devices via HDMI cable that’s if you have the cable anyway. Put in mind that also some devices only support HDMI connections rather than wireless connections.

Here is how you can Rename HDMI Input on your Android TV
1. To prep and get started, connect the HDMI cable to your TV and ensure it is functioning steadily.
2. Go to your Android TV’s home page. Click on the Settings app, then select Device Preferences.
3. On the next page, scroll down to and select the Inputs option. Alternatively, there are other two ways that can lead you straight to the inputs menu. You can press the inputs button on your Android TV remote (the button with a box or circle crossing arrow) or you can select the inputs button on the Android TV home page right next to the Settings app (gear icon). Whichever method you choose to use, it will lead you to the inputs menu. However, on my Android TV, the other alternative methods that lead you to the inputs menu page, do not offer renaming options. It might be a different case with your TV but if we share the same issue, use the long route through Settings>Device Preferences>Inputs.
4. On the inputs menu page, you will see a list of input options, scroll down and select the HDMI input that you want to rename.
5. The list of available name options will be displayed. If you prefer to name your HDMI input Blu-ray, Cable, DVD, Game Console, or Aux tap on the option. However, if you prefer to customize the HDMI input name, select Custom Name then enter the name of the HDMI input, and press OK.
That’s it, you have renamed or labeled your HDMI input on your Android TV. Now every time, you are on the inputs menu, the HDMI input will appear in the customized name. So long to second-guess different HDMI inputs to get the connected input right.
