Did you know that you can delete/remove a Google Account/Gmail account from your Tecno phone without actually factory resetting your phone or deactivating the account? Yes, it is possible and in this tutorial, I will show you the steps you will follow successfully to do this. Note that this will only apply to Android devices.
However, there are consequences for this, note that once you remove a Gmail account from your phone and you do not add any other account, you will be unable to access Google Play, Google Music, YouTube, and other services on your Tecno smartphone attached to this account. I have two methods for you here.
Contents
Method one
- Go to system settings
- From there click accounts
- Then select your Google account.
- Press the menu and select Remove account.
That was easy, right? But if it does not work for you, check out method two
Method Two
- Open Root Explorer or a similar File-browsing app on your Android.
- Open the data/ system folder and delete accounts.db
- If you can’t find the .db file, Go to /data/system/ sync delete accounts.xml
Note: You should open the data folder inside your Android’s root or primary location. You will not find the system folder inside the data folder of your Android’s external SD card.
Many Google Store-related Android error fixes require your Google account to be removed and added back. The above steps to remove the Google account without factory reset can come in handy so that you can continue downloading your apps and games from the Google Store without errors.
Why should you remove your Google account!!
why would you remove your Google Account anyway, if it’s not something serious, then completely erasing your Gmail account from your phone should not be the solution, there are still a lot of phone tricks you can use to deactivate your account and activate it again when you want it without having to remove it, we all know deleting is irreversible?
Turning off sync so you aren’t seeing the emails that come in
This leaves the Google account on your phone, so you can still use it for YouTube, Google Play, and other apps. Gmail will no longer bother you with notifications because it won’t download emails for this account anymore. You can turn to sync back on at any point.
Can You Remove Gmail From An Android Phone?
The Gmail app comes with Android, and you can’t remove it under normal circumstances. You can technically remove it if you root your phone, but that may have unintended consequences, and you won’t free up any usable storage space, anyway.
If you use a different app for email, you can turn off syncing for Gmail or turn off Gmail notifications.
Here’s how to turn off syncing for Gmail so new emails aren’t downloaded into the Gmail app:
- Navigate to Settings > Users & accounts.
- If you have an older version of Android and don’t see this option, look for Cloud and accounts. Others may see a section called Accounts.
- Tap the Gmail account you want to manage.
- You may need to tap Gmail first.
- Tap Account Sync.
- In the menu that appears, scroll to find Gmail. Tap the toggle to turn Gmail syncing off.
- In older versions of Android, this option will be different. Look for where it says Sync Gmail.
Problems Removing a Google Account From an Android Phone
While these instructions work for most Android phones, you may run into a handful of different problems.
The most common is that when you get to remove your account, you may need to tap the overflow menu button to access the option to remove your account. On some phones, you may not see the overflow menu button on your screen.
If you don’t see the overflow menu, which looks like three vertically stacked dots, you may still be able to access it. Look at your Android for a physical or virtual button that looks like three vertically stacked lines.
If you have a button like that, press it when you get to settings. That should open up the overflow menu, which will allow you to remove your Gmail account.
In some cases, you may also have trouble removing the primary Gmail account from your phone. This is the account that was used when the phone was first set up, and it is tied to many apps, like the Google Play Store.
