As I was compiling a tutorial on how to transfer Netflix’s profile to a new account, I got billed from my credit card. Since I already had an existing Netflix account and an active Premium subscription, I felt the need to get a refund. At that time, the biggest question cornering my mind was if it was possible to get a refund for my Netflix payment. I then sent my query to Netflix’s help center and of course, it is possible to get a refund after wrongful payment. In this guide, I will show you how to go about it.

Firstly, you need to identify the reason for the wrongful payment. Some of the common reasons include:

  1. Payment made after canceling subscription: You might have canceled your subscription, but Netflix might have charged you for the following month due to a delay in processing the cancellation.
  2. Double payment: This happens when you accidentally make a double payment, which results in an overcharge.
  3. Unauthorized payment: If you notice an unauthorized charge on your account, it could be due to someone accessing your account without your permission.

Once you have identified the reason for the wrongful payment, follow the below steps to request a refund from Netflix:

How to Initiate a Refund from Netflix

Step 1: Contact Netflix customer service:

The first step is to reach out to Netflix customer service. You can do this by logging into your account, and navigating to the “Help Center” option. On the help center page, you will see already available links for whichever issue you could be facing. However, since initiating a refund requires the help of the customer care representative, scroll to the bottom of the page and select either Call Us or Start Live Chat.

Selecting “Call Us” will require you to enter your phone number, and Netflix will call you back. Alternatively, if you select “Start Live Chat” a customer service representative will get to you right away. In the chat box, tap on “Tell Us your Issue” and then enter your query. If the available response doesn’t serve the purpose, click on “Chat with Agent.”

Explain the issue:

As soon as you are in contact with a customer service agent, engage them that you would like a refund for your subscription. In some instances, you might have to explain why you do need a refund but for my case, the agent went ahead to explain the due diligence involved in the refund process and prompted me to confirm if I am okay with it.

After giving the customer care agent my confirmation to proceed with the refund process, she initiated the refund process on her end and confirmed with me that the refund application has been sent in and that I will get a confirmation mail about the refund via my registered email address.

How Long Does Netflix Refund Take?

The refund from Netflix could take a few hours or a few business days. However, in some rare cases, it can take up to 30 business days. The delay is influenced by the type of bank and mode of payment that the subscriber used. For my scenario, the money was refunded 2 hours later from the exact time of payment but it took a while to appear on my bank statement.

What Happens to your Netflix Account if you Request a Refund?

As soon as the request for a refund on your account is made, your account as well will be canceled. That means you will have paused viewing experience on your favorite streaming app-Netflix. However, you could always at your own convenience sign in to your account, and restart your Netflix membership.

Note: Netflix keeps all your profiles, favorites, viewing preferences, and account details for 10 months. Netflix will automatically delete Netflix accounts 10 months after the membership has been canceled.

Wrap-up: By following the above steps, you should be able to recover your money and enjoy uninterrupted service. Remember, that you can always cancel auto-billings from your account or change billing details at any time if you wish so.
