Before you put out a product on the market, you need to ensure that it is up to standards and the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is responsible for that. To get started you need to apply for UNBS certification and then allow them to inspect your product.
UNBS is a government agency in Uganda that is responsible for developing and promoting standards and quality of products, services, and systems in the country. Using the UNBS Certification Scheme, UNBS offers third-party product certification, which is a process of evaluating a product to ensure that it meets the relevant standards and specifications. This process involves testing the product to determine its quality, safety, and performance, and issuing a certificate mark to the manufacturer or supplier if the product meets the required standards. Product certification can be important for businesses that want to demonstrate the quality and safety of their products to customers and regulators, and it can help to protect consumers by ensuring that they have access to safe and reliable products.
To apply for UNBS’s product certification scheme online, you need the following requirements;
- A registered business/company.
- Official Company Email.
- Official Company Name.
- Company TIN.
- Company Revenue (Annual Turnover).
- Product details.
How to Apply for Product Certification Online in Uganda
1. Navigate to UNBS website.
2. Create an account with the UNBS Certification scheme by clicking on Create Account button.
3. On the next page, you will be required to fill in the account creation form as a company representative. Do as prompted then hit the Submit button. To create an account you will need a company email, company TIN, and company name.
4. After submission, the password will be sent to the registered company email address immediately. Go ahead and get the password then log in to the UNBS certification scheme with your company’s email address and password.
5. Now that you have logged in successfully, click on the Applications tab then select the Start New Application button
6. Choose Product Certification from the dropdown then press Next.
7. Key in all Product details and Brand Name.
8. List the Raw Materials that you use in product manufacturing.
9. Detail the Quality Control Checks that you follow during production stages (from raw material to finished product).
10. Upon filling in all the required information, click on the Submit button to send in your product certification application.
11. Go ahead and agree to UNBS’s Terms and Conditions.
Finally, you have completed the application stage. Behind the scenes, your application will be forwarded to a case officer, who will review it, revert feedback, and schedule the date of product inspection. Thereafter, if your product is up to standards, you will get a certification stamp from UNBS.
