How to Keep your MTN Uganda Line Active in East African Countries

Traveling outside your home country comes with huge propositions but one obvious one is leaving a lot of things behind. One thing that you need is your SIM card. For most of us, our phone number is significant we need to stay in touch with family and friends. Luckily you can keep your MTN Uganda line active in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and South Sudan.

MTN Uganda is registered under the One Network Area (ONA) roaming initiative in East Africa which aims at promoting regional integration by reducing the high mobile roaming cost. Through this initiative, MTN customers can still use their MTN SIM cards including loading data, airtime and mobile money transactions anywhere in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and South Sudan.

STEP 1

On arrival in one of the ONA countries switch on your phone with the MTN Uganda SIM card. A domestic network will automatically be selected. If you are in Kenya Safaricom will be selected, in Rwanda MTN Rwanda will be selected, MTN Sudan will be selected in South Sudan and in Tanzania Vodacom will be selected. This will keep your MTN Uganda line active.

STEP 2

If the SIM card fails to connect automatically then you need to set up the network manually.

  • Go to Settings
  • Choose Mobile Networks
  • Select Network Operators

Choose Network you would like to connect too. (Only available networks will be shown) Select MTN partner in the country that you are visiting. Choose Safaricom is you are in Kenya, MTN in Rwanda, Vodacom in Tanzania and MTN in South Sudan.
