The innovation week kicked off with presentations from government spearheaded by the minister of ICT who tasked the inventors on taking their products to the market and also pledging government policies on mandating government agencies to buy products locally made by the Ugandans.

The minister asked the local startup ecosystem to boast their capacity giving examples of government systems that have been procured from outside because of a lack of capacity from local ICT companies.

The event commenced with several panels on “Taking Uganda’s startup ecosystem to the next level” and sessions on inspiring the next generation of Ugandan innovators with startup founders such as Ricky Thomson of Safeboda, Kentaro Charlene of Kentaro Hand made organics and others.

This year’s Kampala innovation week is taking place at Kololo airstrip and will be running for 3 days.
