On Monday 5th March, Infinix launched its flagship phone of 2019 yet in Uganda, the Infinix HOT 7.

By the look of things, after doing my usual internet browsing of the specs, seeing through the hands on reviews, the price, build quality and performance, in my opinion there isn’t much value added if you are to compare it with its predecessor the Infinix HOT 6.

The general outward look might amuse you, with the Infinix HOT 7 having a wider display as you shall see in the specs desk below – But let us take a look into the inside and outside of this handset and see if really this newest bad boy on Infinix’s Hot series is worth buying.

Memory and Storage space

The memory allocated for the Infinix HOT 7 is similar to its predecessor, the HOT 6.

Still this time, Infinix made 2 models, there is a 1GB RAM model which comes with 16 GB of inbuilt memory space and 2GB RAM which also comes with 16 GB of inbuilt memory space.

Obviously the 2GB RAM model is the go to smartphone for an enthusiastic user, we all know what 1GB RAM is capable of.

For both models the phones, there is a memory card slot which allows for expansion of up to 128GB.

Battery Life and connectivity options

The battery life is the same as that of the Infinix HOT 6.

4000 mAh is thick and solid for a heavy user BUT for the Infinix HOT 7, we expected a 500 mAh more, BUT well, the 4000mAh can play on for the heavy users.

This series of infinix has stuck with the microUSB Type 2.0, type C is still a dream for the infinix mobility family.

The Hot series has also stuck with 3G connection, a down side for those who expected a 4G upgrade.

The Hardware and Software

The Infinix HOT 7 runs on Android Oreo 8.1 XOS Honey bee, the HOT 6 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo Humming bird.

When it goes to the inbuilt chipsets, the Infinix HOT 7 runs on the Mediatek MT6580P Quad- core processor chip versus the Quad core QUALCOMM snapdragon 425 which runs on the Infinix HOT 6.

The argument of which chipset is faster, Qualcomm or Media Tek might not give us the best results, BUT all in all both phones run on the same Android version.

The finger print sensor is at the back as for the Hot 7 (in a square format- with curved corners) as it was with the Hot 6 (in a circle format), both devices have a facial recognition system.

Display

The great stuff (which might not be so significant) is that you get more screen real estate at now 6.2 inches, with an aspect ratio of 19:9.

The Camera and Photo experience

When it comes to photo quality, Infinix has always done its best to give its users the crisp in contrast and clarity of the images, and indeed the Infinix HOT 7 has:

  • The rear camera with auto-focus capability, and is now 13+8MP, that is a higher picture quality for the phone photography lovers.
  • For the selfie lovers, you still have the 8MP on the front but with Fixed Focus.

The price of the Infinix HOT 7

The major attraction for this flagship device is the price, it comes at a lower price than its predecessor. The 2GB RAM model of the Infinix HOT 6 on Jumia is at UGX 489,000 and the Infinix HOT 7 (I don’t know the RAM model yet) comes at UGX 439,000.

Conclusion

In my opinion, there is not much infinix has added to this newest infinix hot 7.

The Camon 11 pro is way above league (even though it’s at a higher price) so Infinix mobility should do better with its next handset otherwise, Tecno might be winning at this.

Maybe if I get my hands on the gadget and play around with it, there is more to the device than just the specs and similarities with its predecessor. Watch the space for more.
