The Communication Authority of Kenya is enforcing the Kenya Information and Communications (Registration of SIM cards) Regulations, 2015 which requires all mobile operators to collect certain details of their subscribers during registration and update SIM Card Details. Airtel, Telkom and now Safaricom have launched self-help portals to directly help their subscribers update their details [Telkom Kenya Portal, Airtel Kenya Portal, how to update Safaricom SIM Card Details Online]
The regulatory body (CA) shared that the deadline for SIM re-registration is 15th October 2022.
According to the CA, Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom Kenya are 67%, 55%, and 33% compliant respectively so far.
JTL’s Faiba Mobile 4G notified its subscribers that they don’t need to re-register their SIM card as their SIM registration was fully compliant with the Communication Authority guidelines.
Main Requirements
- You can do the whole process conveniently online. Instead of visiting a Safaricom Shop or agent to update your details, you can do it from the comfort of your home for yourself and anyone else.
- The National Identity Card is the primary document collected during the registration of a SIM card by a Kenyan.
- Make sure your ID photos are as clear as possible because the system will fail you.
- Also, try to update the details from your smartphone because the process is way much easier, and faster.

Here’s the process on how to Update Safaricom Sim Card Details
#1. Visit the Safaricom Portal HERE.
#2. Enter the Phone Number whose details you want to update.
#3. Agree to the Privacy Policy and Click Next.
#4. You will receive a One-Time Password (OTP) which you should enter to continue.
#5. You will then see a list of all phone numbers that are registered under you.
#6. Select the phone numbers that are yours, the ones you know. Then click NEXT.
#7. Now upload a picture of your ID on both the front and back sides separately.
#8. Make sure the pictures are clear and properly cropped to only focus on the ID bit.
#9. Click Verify!
It is a simple process that should take you a few minutes. Make sure your phone numbers listed are correct. Also, help out those who may not have updated their details.
In case you don’t see phone numbers that should be listed, contact or visit the nearest Safaricom Shop for assistance. Make sure you also Report via *106# numbers you believe aren’t yours.
