How to transfer WhatsApp messages to a new phone

Whatsapp is now one of the most used mobile messaging applications in the world with over 2 billion users as of recent statistics. However, what happens when you change from an old phone to another? You may lose all your WhatsApp chat history. This tutorial is going to show you how to transfer WhatsApp messages to a new phone.

Method One : Restore whatsapp message from Google drive .

Retrieve WhatsApp messages Online

To retrieve WhatsApp messages from old, lost phones to new ones using Google drive, you need to follow some of the following steps below.

Important points to note :

If you’re going to use Google Drive to transfer WhatsApp messages to a new phone, you’ve to ensure that the following points below are true :

• Your phone must be connected to Google drive (in other wards google drive sync should be enabled )
• You must have enough space for your backup on google drive .
• Your phone must have enough space to create whatsapp data back up .
• You must have google play services installed on phone ( phone version should be 2.3.4 and later )

Step one:

In step one, you have to back up your WhatsApp data on google drive. Go to MENU > Settings > Chats > Chat > backup> Back up

Step two :

Add the same Gmail account to the new phone that was used to perform the backup on your old phone. Also, make sure you are using the same phone number on the new phone.

Step three :

In step three, install WhatsApp on your new phone from the play store.

Step Four :

Perform the installation processes step by step as shown. After verifying the phone number you used on your old phone, you’ll be prompted to back up your WhatsApp messages from google drive.

Step Five :

After the restoration process is complete, click ” Next ” and your chats will be displayed once initialization is complete.

Step six :

After retrieving your WhatsApp messages to your new phone, WhatsApp will begin restoring your media files.

Method Two : Retrieve old whatsapp messages in new phone using SD card

This step requires you to save your chat history on a given memory of your old phone and transfer the files to the new phone.

Go to your WhatsApp app, Menu > settings > Chats > Back up chats & select back up. Whatsapp files will be saved locally on either your internal memory or external SD card. There are two options to transfer these files locally to a new phone.

Option 1:

• Connect your old phone to a PC / computer via USB cable and navigate to internal memory of the device to the folder WhatsApp / Database. This is where all the backup files are saved with respect to a date. They will look something like “msgstore-2018-02-29.db.crypt”. Copy the file with the latest creation date (it will have a different name from the automatic backups created, mine is “msgstore.db.crypt8”) onto your PC in an easy to find location (such as your desktop).
• Install whatsapp on new phone from play store but do not open the app .
• Connect your phone PC via USB cable . since you’ve installed whatsapp on your device whatsapp/database folder is automatically created , but if its not created you can manually create these folders ( Whatsapp/database ) on internal memory of phone . Remember database is another folder in whatsapp folder .
• Copy and paste your backup files from PC into the whatsapp/database folder (i.e backup file should be pasted in the database folder which belongs to whatsapp folder on internal memory )
• Now continue to install whatsapp and verify your phone number .A notification will be shown that a backup file has been found on your device . Select “Restore ” and continue .
• After initialization , your chat history will be restored on new phone whatsapp .

Option 2 :

• To an Android phone with an external SD card, take the SD card out of your old phone, and put it into your new one.
• Install whatsapp on new phone .
• After verification of phone number , a notification will be shown that a back up file has been found and select “Restore ” to complete the process .
• If the back up fails , you can try to copy the whatsapp/database folder and paste them to the internal memory . Make sure they replace the existing whatsapp/database files .
• After the initialization process , whatsapp messages will be restored to new phone .

How to transfer whatsapp messages from iphone to android .

Just like android smartphone users can use google drive to restore WhatsApp messages, iPhone users can easily use iCloud to transfer WhatsApp messages from iPhone to android and vise versa.

Requirements

• You must have iOS 7 or later.
• You must be signed into iCloud (iPhone Settings > iCloud).
• There must be enough free space on both your iCloud and your iPhone
• For iOS 7: Documents & Data (iPhone Settings > iCloud > Documents & Data) must be set to ON.
  For iOS 8 and later: iCloud Drive (iPhone Settings > iCloud > iCloud Drive) must be set to ON.

To make a manual backup of WhatsApp messages on iPhone, you’ll follow the following steps below.

• Go to WhatsApp Menu>Settings > Chats > Chat Backup and tap Back Up Now.
• This process will back up your iphone whatsapp messages to your iCloud account . Remember you can decide to backup videos or not . The backup process can take a while depending on the internet connectivity of your iphone .

Transfer using email chat

• Open WhatsApp on your iPhone
• Go to Settings, then Chat Settings, then Chat History, and finally Email Chat
• Select the WhatsApp chats that you want to transfer from your iPhone to your Android
• A pop-up window will appear warning that large media files take longer to send
• Choose either to send the chats ‘Without Media’, or to ‘Attach Media’ Type in an email address you can access and hit send
• Log in to that email address on your Android
• Find the email you’ve just sent and view the chats in TXT format
• Unfortunately you cannot sync these chats with your Android device but they are now stored in your phone to view
• However note that without using a third party tool, it’s not possible to transfer chat history form iphone to android and vise versa .

How to transfer WhatsApp messages from Android to PC

If you want to transfer your WhatsApp messages from Android to PC, you can do so by following some of the steps below:-

Step 1. Download PhoneRescue (choose Download for Android and select the right version for your device) and launch it > Connect your Android phone to the computer. Here we take PhoneRescue for SAMSUNG as an example.

Step 2. Select WhatsApp Messages > Click Next to confirm.

Step 3. If you have rooted your device, the Deep Scan function would be available at once. If not, to start with, PhoneRescue will root your device. Rooting your device may take a few minutes. Please keep patient. After scanning, preview and select the items you need and click the To Computer button to recover the messages.
