How to Transfer Emails from one Gmail Account to Another

Using the procedure below, you can automatically forward your messages to another address or you can choose to forward all new messages or just specific ones.

1. On your computer, open Gmail and sign in to the account you want to forward messages from.

Quick Note: This automatic forward feature is available for only a single Gmail address. That means you can not set it up for an email group or alias.

2. Click on Settings in the top right corner of the screen the select See all settings.

3. Tap on the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab at the top bar.

4. In the “Forwarding” section, click Add a forwarding address.

5. Enter the email address you want to forward messages to.

6. Click Next then tap Proceed.

7. A verification message will be sent to that address, tap “OK” if you agree. Now, click the verification link in that message that was sent to the address that you entered.

8. Go back to the settings page for the Gmail account you want to forward messages from, and refresh your browser.

9. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.

10. In the “Forwarding” section, select Forward a copy of incoming mail to.

11. Choose what you want to happen with the Gmail copy of your emails.

  • Select archive Gmail’s copy to clear your old account’s inbox while keeping them in the Archive folder in case you want to access them later.
  • Select delete Gmail’s copy to move mail instead of copying it. This option moves old messages to the trash, so you won’t be able to get them later.
  • Select keep Gmail’s copy in the Inbox to leave the original message untouched.
  • Choose mark Gmail’s copy as read to leave the original email in the Inbox and mark it as read. This shows you what Gmail has forwarded and what it hasn’t.

12. At the bottom of the page, click Save Changes.

Quick Note: Automatically forwarded messages can only be sent to one account. To forward emails to multiple accounts, use the steps above in “Only forward certain kinds of messages” to create filters to forward messages to different accounts.
