If someone has emailed you a document that you have to sign and email back, the iPhone Notes app can surely help you with that. Normally, you would print out the document, physically sign it, scan it, and emailed it back. However, that traditional method will scoop your time. With the Notes app on your iPhone, you can scan any document if you have it physically or use a pre-existing pdf document, then create an electronic signature for that particular document. Here’s how to scan and sign a document in the Notes app on your iPhone.

Step 1: Scan the Document

1. On your iPhone, search for the Notes app and open the app.

2. Now, tap on an already existing note or create a new one by tapping the Note icon (book and pen) in the bottom right corner.

3. Tap the Camera button, then select Scan Documents from the pop-up menu. If you are using the older versions, tap on the add sign (+) and select “Scan Documents.”

4. Place your document in view of the camera to scan it. If your device is in Auto mode, your document will automatically scan. If you need to manually capture a scan, tap the Shutter button or one of the Volume buttons. Then drag the corners to adjust the scan to fit the page. If you are satisfied with the scanned picture, tap on Keep Scan.

5. Tap Save or add additional scans to the document.

Step 2: Sign the Document

1. Open Notes, then tap the document in the note.

2. Tap the Share button, then select Markup.

3. Tap the Add button, then tap Signature and add a saved signature or create a new signature.

4. To create a signature, tap on the add icon (+), use your finger to draw the signature on the screen, and click Save. Then you can adjust the size of the signature box and place it wherever you want on the document.

5. Tap Done.

6. To manually sign your document, follow steps 1-2, then select a tool to use and sign the document with your finger or an Apple Pencil with a compatible iPad.
