How to Recover Hacked Facebook Account
These methods work for every Facebook account that has been hacked, regardless of how you lost your account to a hacker online. This guide is effective for all owners of hacked Facebook accounts, whether they are in the United States of America (USA), United Kingdom (UK), India, Nigeria, South Africa, or other parts of the world, as long as you properly follow the recovery procedure as described below.
What actions should you take if your Facebook account is hacked? The actions you should take to get your Facebook account back are listed below.
1. Act Immediately
If Facebook sends you an email warning you about questionable conduct, you need to respond immediately. A hacker is more likely to be able to modify important information the longer they have access to your account, making it more difficult for you to regain control.
Examine all your Facebook security emails, then take the recommended action right away. To restore access to your compromised Facebook account, click on “Change Password,” “Secure your account,” and any other buttons that appear.
2. Change your Facebook password
Change your password as soon as possible if you can still access your account. To achieve this, follow to the procedures below:
- After logging into your Facebook account, click “Settings” from the dropdown menu at the top of the page.
- Again, click ‘Settings.’ Then click ‘Security and login’ under Account Settings on the left side of the page.
- Click on ‘Change password’.
- To validate your password, please type both your old password and your new password twice. For security, we advise using a password manager and password generator.
Additionally, I suggest that you use two-factor authentication (2FA), which increases account security by introducing a two-step verification process. Use the SMS verification system rather than an app verification system and be sure you include your phone number. You might not be able to connect back to your Facebook page if you misplace both your phone and the verification app.
3. Password Recovery
If your password no longer works and you think it has been changed, your next step should be to use Facebook’s account recovery methods to reset your hijacked Facebook account’s password.
- Navigate to the Facebook login page and choose ‘Forgot password?’
- Type in an email address or phone number linked with your account and hit the ‘Search’ button.
- Select ‘Continue’ after logging in using your email, Google account, or phone number.
- Enter the code you got through SMS or email and press the ‘Continue’ button.
- Enter your new password and confirm by clicking ‘Continue.’
4. Family and Friends Recovery
If you are unable to retrieve the account on your own, a friend or family member can assist you. Follow the steps outlined below.
- Have a friend log in and navigate to the profile you want to restore. Select ‘Find support or report profile’ by clicking the three dots next to the profile name.
- On the report window, check the box next to ‘I can’t access my account,’ then click ‘Next.’
- Select ‘Recover this account’.
- At the bottom of the window, click ‘No longer have access to these?’
- Enter an email address or phone number that you presently have access to, then click ‘Continue’ to contact Facebook Support.
You may be required to upload a legitimate ID, such as your passport or driver’s license. It may occasionally request that you submit it by snapping a photo using your webcam. Once posted, it might take up to two weeks to receive a response from Facebook.
5. Report Your Hacked Facebook Account to recover it
If none of the previous techniques work, you should report the compromised account to Facebook immediately. Follow the steps outlined below:
- Navigate to the hacked account report page and choose ‘My Account Is Compromised.’
- Enter your email address or phone number, then press the ‘Search’ button.
- To report your account, enter your most recent password and click ‘continue.’ Facebook may offer you with further instructions to assist with account recovery.
- Facebook may request that you upload an image of your ID to validate your identity.
6. Bypassing 2FA – Two-Factor Authentication
Even if the hacker has implemented Two-Factor Authentication, it is still feasible to bypass it. When you attempt to log in and are presented with the page below, please choose “Need another method to authenticate?” The following message should appear:
Then, select “Submit a request to Facebook.” It will ask you to enter the name of your account, the name of your cell carrier, and your complete name, and to upload a government-issued ID. You should receive a response within 48 hours to one week after submitting this form.
Conclusion
You can quickly recover your hacked Facebook account using these easy steps. It may take longer to restore an account, but if you follow these steps on the same day you lost it, you have a 90% chance of recovering it that day.
