Following several postponements of the deadline for people to link their NIN to their SIM, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has now mandated all telecommunications operators in the country to block all outgoing calls on SIM cards that are not registered with the National Identity Numbers (NIN), which took effect on April 4th, 2022. As a result, many Nigerians who have not enrolled for NIN or who have been unsuccessful in linking their phone number have had their line restricted from making outbound calls.  

Major Nigerian network providers (MTN, Glo, Airtel, and 9mobile) have made it simple and quick for users to link their National Identity Number (NIN) to their line. However, some Nigerians who have NIN are uncertain how to link their phone numbers to their NIN.

Here are the procedures to connect your phone number to your NIN:

How to Link Your NIN With Your MTN Phone Number

• To link your NIN to an MTN number, call *785# with the MTN phone number you want to link, input your NIN, then press the submit button.
• From the mtn phone number you want to link, dial *785#Your NIN#. The number will be instantly connected to your NIN.
• Visit https://mtnonline.com/nin/ or download the MyMTN App (via Android or iOS) to enter your NIN information.
• Fill out the NIN linking form with your name, mobile phone number, NIN, and email address.
• When you’re done, submit the form.
• Wait for the network’s response.

How to Link Your NIN to Your GLO Number

You have two options for connecting NIN to your Glo line:

• Visit the online registration portal via www.gloworld.com/ng/nin to fill your information and link.
• To submit your information, dial *109*yourNIN# (for example, *109*080XXXXXXXX #) and follow the prompts.
• Using SMS – Simply text your NIN number to 109 (e.g., 080XXXXXXXX to 109) and wait for a response.

How to Link Your NIN to Your Airtel Phone Number

Follow the steps below to link your NIN to your Airtel phone number:

• Dial *121# from the Airtel line to which you want to connect.
• Enter 1 for “NIN Capture” and send.
• Enter your 11-digit NIN and send.
• Wait for the message that verifies your submission was successful. If you receive an error, simply wait a few moments and try again.

How to Link Your NIN to Your 9Mobile Number

There are two ways to link your SIM number to your NIN

First option: Go to http://www.9mobile.com.ng/nin.

• Click on the ‘Verify and Link your NIN Now’ button.
• Fill in the required information and submit

Second option: Dial *200*8# and follow the steps to enter your information.
