What is a National ID?
A national ID is one that the governments of various countries use to track citizens, permanent residents, and temporary residents for work, taxation, government benefits, health care, and other governmentally-related functions.
Once you lose your National ID, you may lose out on many opportunities. For example, some jobs require National IDs. Registering SIM Cards requires National IDs. And so on.
You might say if I lose my card, can’t I just get a new one? Yes, you can get a new one. But it takes a long time. It would be a miracle if you lost your card today and got a replacement the next day.
Personally, it took me almost a year to get my National ID. It took over 2 years for my brother to get his.
What do you do then in the meantime as you wait for your card to be replaced? Just get a confirmation of information letter from NIRA.

A confirmation of information letter is a lifesaver in the loss of your National ID card.
What is required is your National Identification Number (NIN). Follow these steps to get one:
a) Firstly, go to the NIRA website: nira.go.ug. Under key services, select Confirmation of information and enter your NIN.
b) Secondly, click generate PRN. You will see a 13 digit number.
Use the number to pay 1000 UGX to URA using Mobile Money.
After paying, enter the PRN where it is supposed to be entered.
c) Lastly, preview the letter. If you are happy with the letter, you can send it online or download and print it.
NOTE: You can only use one PRN per transaction. In the event that you choose to download, you will have to generate and pay another PRN for another transaction.
Things randomly happen. You may forget your National ID somewhere and not find it. It might get stolen in a wallet or bag. You might sit on it and it gets broken. And so on.
Getting a confirmation of information letter will help you resume normally with your work life as you wait for an ID replacement.
