NSSF (National Social Security Fund) is responsible for the collection, safekeeping, responsible investment, and distribution of retirement funds for all employees in the sectors of Uganda that do not fall under the government pension schemes. a) What is an NSSF number?
An NSSF number is a number that identifies you with the system, as a member of the NSSF. This number enables you to make your NSSF contributions, and comfortably complete any transactions with the organization.

b) Do you need an NSSF number?
Well, it depends. Do you want to save for retirement? If you do, then you need an NSSF number.
On the other hand, there are some workplaces that require all their employees to be registered with NSSF. In such cases, however much you do not want to save for retirement, you are forced to save, as long as you still work for that company.
So, whichever monthly salary you get, a portion of it is taken to your savings NSSF account automatically.
c) How to generate an NSSF number in Uganda
One of the requirements to create an NSSF number in Uganda is that you have to be having a valid National ID of Uganda. Or you could use a passport in case you have one.
To create for yourself an NSSF number, follow these steps:
a) Firstly, go to the NSSF website.
b) Secondly, click or tap on become a member.
c) Thirdly, choose the USE NIN option.
d) Enter your National ID Number (NIN), email address, and contact. The NIN is gotten from your National ID card. After entering that information, accept the terms and conditions and click on Become a member.
A one-time password is then sent to your email. Copy and paste it into the box and proceed to the next step. Then, you will be presented with your NSSF number afterward.
