If you need an extra layer of security for your WhatsApp account, enable Two-step verification. WhatsApp’s Two-step verification is a process that involves two authentication methods performed one after the other to verify that someone or something requesting access to your WhatsApp account is who or what they are declared to be. This means that no other person will download and have access to your WhatsApp account or change your WhatsApp number. Under the two-step verification settings in your WhatsApp account, you have the option to enable or disable the feature, change the PIN or update the email address associated with two-step verification. 1. Start WhatsApp on your mobile device.

2. Tap on More options for the Android version and select Settings.

3. From the Settings menu, select Account.

4. Tap on “Two-step Verification.”

5. Click “Enable.”

6. Enter a six-digit PIN of your choice and confirm it.

7. Upon confirming the pin, you will be prompted to provide an email address that will help you reset the two-step verification. If you do not wish to provide your email address, tap Skip. However, once you forget your pin, you won’t be able to reset it. Therefore, WhatsApp strongly recommends adding an email address as this allows you to reset two-step verification, and helps safeguard your account.

Quick Note: If you don’t add an email address and you forget your PIN, you’ll have to wait 7 days before you can reset your PIN. This happens because WhatsApp doesn’t verify the email address to confirm its accuracy, make sure you provide an accurate email address you can access.

9. Confirm the email address and tap Save or Done.

How to Reset Two-Step Verification PIN on WhatsApp

WhatsApp enables users to reset two-step verification using two methods. You can reset the pin with an email address or if you forgot the email address, you will have to wait for 7 days.

Reset PIN with an email address

If you provided an email address when you set up two-step verification, you can reset the PIN immediately by requesting a reset link. To reset the PIN:

  1. Open WhatsApp > tap Forgot PIN? > Send Email. A reset link will be sent to the email address you provided.
  2. In the email, follow the reset link and tap CONFIRM.
  3. Open WhatsApp > tap Forgot PIN? > Reset.

Keep in mind, that deleting or reinstalling WhatsApp won’t disable or reset the PIN for two-step verification.

Reset PIN without an email address

If you did not register with an email address during the Two-step verification setup process, or if you forgot the email you registered with, you will need to wait 7 days to reset the PIN. After the 7-day period, open WhatsApp > tap Forgot PIN? > Reset.
