Is Google Chrome password manager safe enough?

It’s not easy to memorize all passwords and usernames of various accounts, but with the Google password manager, you can have all your passwords in centralized storage that can be accessed from any device using Google Chrome.

Most of the time, the Google Chrome password manager is compared with LastPass.

LastPass is another famous password manager that lets users store not only passwords but additional information like bank account details in an encrypted format. However, we shall keep our eyes on Google Chrome for now.

The safety of the Google Chrome password manager strongly depends on how many people you share your computer with.

Google Chrome password manager like other password managers is not a great choice to use in case you share your computer a lot of time.

This is because anyone with access to the chrome browser on the same computer can access all the accounts whose passwords are saved in the password manager. In this case of a shared environment, I advise you to avoid accessing sensitive accounts from shared computers.

And if you must use a shared computer for sensitive accounts, make sure to clean up all the traces after using it by signing out, clearing the history, and deleting all sorts of cookies.

Once an intruder user gains access to Google Chrome on your computer, the final measure that Chrome provides to keep passwords safe is the underlying User Account in the Operating System.

This reminds you of how important the OS user account password is and how you should keep it very safe.

Other than that Google Chrome password manager should be safe enough for a Personal Computer that is not shared.
