What is a Twitter Username/Twitter Handle?

The Twitter username that is also known as the Twitter handle is an identification used by individuals to access their Twitter accounts, and receive replies and Direct messages. In simple terms, the username associates you with your Twitter account. The username begins with the “@” symbol (for instance: @ugtechmag), is unique to per particular account, and appears in your profile URL.  

How Long can Usernames/Twitter Handles be?

  • The Twitter username must be between 4 characters and 15 characters.
  • Your username can contain only letters, numbers, and underscores—no spaces are allowed.

Step 1:Open your Twitter app on your device and log in to your account.

Step 2:Tap on the profile icon at the top left corner of the screen.

Step 3: Scroll down to and select Settings and Privacy.

Step 7: Type in your New username. If the username is taken, you will be prompted to create a new unique username.

Step 8: Click “Done” to save your new username.

Step 1: Launch your browser and go to Twitter.com.

Step 2: Log in to your account.

Step 2: On the left panel, tap on “More.”

Step 3: Select “Settings and Privacy.”

Step 4. Click on “Your Account” followed by “Account information.”

Step 5: At this stage, you will be prompted to enter your Twitter account password.

Step 6: Tap on Username.

Step 7: Type in your New username. If the username is taken, you will be prompted to create a new unique username.

Step 8: Click the “Save” button.

Quick Note: According to Twitter, Changing your username will not affect your existing followers, Direct Messages, or replies. The followers will simply see a new username next to your profile photo when you update. Twitter also highly suggests that you alert your followers before you change your username so they can direct replies or Direct Messages to your new username. Additionally, once you change your username, your previous username will immediately be available for use by someone else.

How many Times Can I change my Twitter Username?

Unlike Instagram, which limits you to two changes every 14 days, there are no limits to how often and how many times you can change your Twitter username.

How to Change Twitter Display Name

Oftentimes, users intertwine the Twitter username with the Twitter Display name, and yet they are two different things. The display name also referred to as “Name” on your Twitter profile is a personal identifier on Twitter and is separate from your username. It can be things like something playful, a business name, or a real name, and is displayed next to your username. To change username;

Step 1: Tap on the profile icon at the top left corner of the screen.

Step 2: Select Profile.

Step 4: Under “Name” edit and key in your new display name.

Step 5: Click the “Save” button.

Quick Note: Your display name can be the same as many other people, but your username will always be unique to your account.
