If you own an iPhone and an Android TV, the chances are high that you have tried to cast from your iPhone to your Android TV in vain. This is because the Android TV is not compatible with AirPlay. Unlike the iPhone, the Android phone is compatible with the Android TV because both devices support Chromecast. However, there is a way to overcome the casting error limitation. First, you can choose to download a third-party app (AirScreen) that will make the Android TV compatible with Airplay or use Chromecast-enabled apps on your iPhone.
To cast content from your iPhone to your Android TV, you’ll need all of the following:
- iPhone.
- Active WiFi Connection (Both the TV and the Smartphone must be connected to the same WiFi network).
- Android TV.
Method 1: Cast from iPhone to Android TV using the AirScreen app
The AirScreen app helps you to screen and mirror content from your iPhone to your Android TV natively without an Apple TV box. The app basically acts as a receiver for Airplay, cast, mirror cast, and DLNA on your Android TV enabling your device to receive mirroring, photos, music, music videos, and soo much more.
Step 1: Download and install AirScreen on your Android TV.
The first thing that you need to do is download the AirScreen app on your Android TV.
After successful download, open the app on your device and allow the AirScreen app to receive screen mirroring, photos, music, videos, and other media from phones, tablets, and laptops via Airplay, cast, miracast, and DLNA. Hit Confirm to proceed.
Step 2: Start the Server
As soon as the app is opened on your device, the server will be started instantly. Once the server has started, you’ll be able to see the device ID, server name, and the Wi-Fi name on the TV screen. Next, on the left menu bar, select Settings (gear icon) to view the device name, turn on Airplay, Miracast, Cast, DLNA if you want to use the feature on your Android TV. Under the Settings menu, you can set full screen or retain the phone screen.
Step 3: Connect to Android TV
In order to successfully cast content from your iPhone to Android TV, ensure that both your IOS/iPadOS device and Android TV are connected to the same wireless network. Next, on your IOS/iPadOS device, swipe down from the upper right corner of the screen or button of the age for (On iPhone 8 or earlier or IOS 11) to open Control Center and then tap on Screen Mirroring. Choose the name of the device. Congratulations!! You have finally, cast content from your iPhone to your Android TV.
Quick Tip: Allow the AirScreen app to run in the background so you can connect to the TV quickly which out opening the app each time you want to cast content from your phone. To disconnect screen mirroring, tap on “Stop Screen Mirroring.”
Method 2: Cast from iPhone to Android TV using Chromecast Enabled Apps
This method is suitable for Chromecast-enabled apps like Netflix, YouTube TV, Hulu, HBO Max, Prime Video, etc. Within these Chromecast-enabled apps, you will just tap on the Chromecast icon within the app, select the device and content will be cast immediately.
Step 1: Open your preferred Chrome Cast-enabled app.
Step 2: Find and tap on the Cast icon at the top bar of the home page.
Step 3: On the next pop-up menu, select the device you want to connect to and wait for the connection to be made. If you do not know the Device name, go to Settings>Device Preferences>About.
Step 4: Once the connection is established, your YouTube screen will be mirrored on your TV and the Cast icon will turn red.
