In this blog, we show you how to apply for a death certificate online in Kenya
In Kenyan Law, Section 17 of the Birth and Death Registration Act provides that the Registrar of Deaths should be notified of a person’s death after 30 days from the date of death. This is to ensure that the deceased is provided with a Death Certificate.
You will need a death certificate to access services that were previously registered under your loved one’s name. These include; the transfer of assets, and accessing retirement benefits as well as clearing your loved one from the government system such as the voters’ register and de-register them as taxpayers. The online application is only for persons who have passed away in Nairobi only (as of the time of writing this article).
