What does Rebooting mean:

Rebooting is the process in which a running computer system is restarted. Either intentionally or unintentionally. Reboots can be either a cold reboot [also known as a hard reboot] in which the power to the system is physically turned off and back on again [resulting in an initial boot of the machine]. The second type of reboot is a warm reboot [also called a soft reboot] in which the system restarts while still powered up. The term restart (as a system command) is used to mean a reboot when the operating system closes all programs and wraps up all pending input and output operations before initiating a soft reboot. How often should you reboot your computer:

For my part, I reboot my computer at least once every day. This is because I usually have five or more applications running. And I also open and close a lot of documents and windows. As long as I do not reboot, after a few hours, I observe that applications begin to slow down and sometimes even freeze –rebooting eliminates these problems. That is my opinion, but what do the majority recommend on how often we should reboot our computers?

Since a reboot will close out all active programs, it is recommended to reboot your computer at least once a week to keep everything running smoothly.

Why you should reboot your computer

  1. If your computer installs any updates in the background, sometimes you need a reboot to install the update.
  2. Rebooting your computer helps keep it running smoothly. It clears the memory, stopping any tasks that are eating up RAM. Even if you have closed an app, it could still be draining your memory.
  3. A reboot can also fix peripheral and hardware issues. If your computer is still running slow, rebooting returns it to its normal speed usually.

How to correctly reboot your computer:

A lot of people are shutting down their computers by holding in the power button. This way may cause additional problems.

For PC owners, open the start menu and select the power button. Once selected, another drop-down menu will appear; at this point, select the restart option. That is the proper way to reboot your computer on windows.

For Mac users, the process is just as simple if not effortless. All that is required is to select the Apple icon in the top left corner, then press restart.
