Airtel Tugabane is a multi-surf service that allows Airtel customers to share data with their loved ones. Launched in April 2015, Tugabane allows the Airtel mobile subscriber to add up to 4 Airtel phone numbers to share their active internet bundles regardless of whether someone is near them or outside the country. So while Ugandans were enjoying this particular service, Airtel Uganda got some data bundles removed from the Tugabane feature.

In a statement released on their official Twitter handle, Airtel introduced the new changes to Tugabane services.

With effect from 21st July 2021, the Tugabane service will be inactive on the following data bundles;

  • Freaky Friday
  • Freaky Holiday
  • Daily Data bundles

Editorial Note: Due to Airtel subscriber demand, Freaky Friday bundles are now shareable on the Tugabane feature. this means you can go freaky with your friends and family using the same data bundle.

However, the number will stay connected to Tugabane but those specific bundles will be inactive. So if you are on someone’s Tugabane list, and you probably check that you have data but you cannot browse, well your sponsor must have loaded data bundles removed from the Tugabane service.

Although the Telecom operator did not stress the reason for the tugabane changes, it encourages all customers to gift Freaky Friday, Freaky Holidays, and Daily Data bundles to friends and family by dialing *175*5#.
