How to Control your PC Using your Mobile Phone
The procedure for controlling your PC using your mobile phone is sectioned into two steps. Step 1 configures downloading and installing the Remote Desktop app that you prefer and step 2 guides you on how to connect your phone to your PC. Simple, right? Let’s dive in.
Step 1: Download and Install Chrome Remote Desktop App
To control your PC from your mobile phone, you need a remote desktop extension added to the browser you use on your PC. There are several remote desktop extensions and some of the popular ones include Microsoft Remote Desktop, Chrome Remote Desktop, and TeamViewer. In this guide, we shall use the Chrome Desktop extension. Whichever extension you choose, the steps will be closely similar. First, you need to add the extension to your browser as depicted below;
1. Navigate to your browser and search for the Chrome Remote Desktop. Once the page is loaded, tap on Access My Computer.
2. Next, tap on the download icon to set up remote access on your PC. Once you click on the download icon, a new prompt will pop up on your screen, tap on Add extension to Chrome and confirm the action. The download of the extension will commence immediately.
3. Now tap on Accept & Install to proceed with the final stages of this first step. After the download is complete, the Chrome Remote Desktop extension will be added to your Chrome extension list.
4. Choose a name for your computer then tap Next.
5. Set up and confirm a 6-digit pin that you will use to connect to your computer. After pin set-up, click on Start.
Step 2: Download the Chrome Remote Desktop & Connect Your Mobile Phone to Your PC
Now that you have successfully added the Chrome Remote Desktop extension to your browser, you need to follow through with the next step and download the Chrome Remote Desktop app on your phone as well then connect it to your PC.
Quick Note: The remote desktop extension that you choose to add to your browser should be similar to the app that you download on your mobile phone. For instance, if you used the Chrome Remote Desktop extension on your PC, you will have to download the Chrome Remote Desktop app on your mobile.
To do so:
1. Download and install the Chrome Remote Desktop app on your device. The app is available on Google Play Store and App Store.
2. After successful download, start the app and sign in with the same Google account on your PC.
3. Next, select your PC from the list of displayed options.
4. Enter the 6-digit pin as prompted.
With the correct pin, your mobile phone will be connected to your PC instantly. Scroll in all angles to view and navigate to all sides of the PC screen. Tap on the hamburger icon to show the keyboard, trackpad mode, and disconnect sharing.
