1. Check Word Count via Visual Editor-WordPress

The first way to check the word count in WordPress is to use the visual editor. When you’re writing a post or page in WordPress, you’ll see a toolbar at the top of the screen. Previously, within this toolbar, there was a word count button that you could click to view your current word count. You could just click on the information icon (I) and the word count would be displayed. However, with the latest updates in WordPress version 6.2, the “i” was removed and replaced with the hamburger option right in the same place in both the classic and block editors. The replaced option can help you see the word count of the post. Here is how;

  • Tap on the three horizontal lines at the top menu bar of your editor.
  • Click on the Outline section.
  • The word count, characters, and reading time for your article will be displayed.
  • Once you are finished viewing word count details, tap the cancel icon (x) to exit the word count window.

2. Use a Word Count Plugin to Check Word Count

Another way to check the word count in WordPress is to use a plugin. There are several plugins available in the WordPress repository that can display the word count of your post or page. One of the most popular plugins is Word Count, which is free and easy to use. After installing the plugin, you’ll see the word count at the top of the screen when you’re editing a post or page.

There are a number of ways in which you can know your post’s word count. The easiest way is using a WordPress inbuilt tool to view word count rather than going through the stress to download a word count plugin that serves the same purpose as the inbuilt word count tool in Word Press.
