Before you go ahead to apply for any certification from National Identification Regulatory Authority (NIRA), you need to check if you have the required requirements. The requirements differ depending on application type. The good news is that NIRA has a short code that enables users to check NIRA application requirements. Just dial *216# using any telecom sim card, select Application Requirements then go ahead to select number that corresponds with what you want to apply for.

Check NIRA Application Requirements on your Phone
Check National ID Requirements
1. Dial *216# and press OK.
2. Select option 1, Application Requirements.
3. Choose option 1, National ID.
4. Requirements for Citizens by Birth are;
- Copy of National ID of parent(s) if alive,
- Certified copy of Birth Certificate.
- LC1 letter endorsed by GISO/DISO.
- Identification bearing Applicant’s photo.
5. Requirements or Dual/ Registration/Naturalization are;
- Certified copies of relevant certificates from National citizenship and Immigration Board (NCIB).
- Identification bearing Applicant’s photo.
Check Alien ID Requirements
1. Dial *216# and press OK.
2. Select option 1, Application Requirements.
3. Choose option 2, Alien ID.
4. The requirements are;
- Pre-registration/requirements link. Go to https://nira.go.ug/register.
- Proof of Payment.
- Make an appointment on the link https://nira.go.ug/register_appt.
- Appear in person at NIRA.

Certification and Confirmation of information Requirements
1. Dial *216# and press OK.
2. Select option 1, Application Requirements.
3. Choose option 3, Certification and Confirmation of Information.
4. The requirements are;
- Proof of Registration (Application ID, NIN, Names, and Date of Birth).
- Proof of Payment (UGX 1,000)
Birth Certificate Requirements
1. Dial *216# and press OK.
2. Select option 1, Application Requirements.
3. Choose option 4, Birth Certificate.
4. The requirements are;
- Notification Record from medical facility or from sub county Chief / town clerk.
- Duty filled NIRA notice of birth form.
- National identification card/NINs of parents.
- Payment receipt from a bank of UGX 5000 for a citizen or $40 for non citizens. It is free for refugees.
Death Certificate Requirements
1. Dial *216# and press OK.
2. Select option 1, Application Requirements.
3. Choose option 5, Death Certificate.
4. The requirements are;
- A death notification record from a medical facility or sub county Chief.
- Medical cause of death from hospital issues by the medical doctor who attended to the deceased or postmortem report fro a pathologist who conducted the postmortem.
- Attach photocopy of then national ID card of the application and present the National ID card of the deceased.
- Payment receipt in the names of the deceased from the bank of UGX 5000 for citizens and $40 for non citizens.
- A death certificate is free for a refugee that dies in Uganda on presentation of proof or Refugee status.
Adoption Certificate Requirements
1. Dial *216# and press OK.
2. Select option 1, Application Requirements.
3. Choose option 6, Adoption Certificate.
